View Full Version : Espon 1080UB/Home-Pro-Vertical Stretch via Upgrade
Wilson-Flyer 01-23-08, 07:30 PM It's strange to me that some manufacturers upgrade their projectors semi-regularly with new firmware releases while others do not or they have to be sent in to be upgraded. Infocus comes to mind as a great example of a manufacturer that always brought out new firmware to fix problems and sometimes to even add features (I own a 4805 too). Contrarily, my AX-100 would have to go back to Heartland to get newer firmware as I understand it. Which brings me to my two-fold question...
1) Could Epson upgrade the Home and/or the Pro 1080UB to support vertical stretch?
2) What is Epson's track record with regard to upgrading firmware on thier projector product line (this is my first Epson projector purchase)? I guess I'm asking is there any chance assuming number 1 is a positive response.
I'm not having buyer's remorse at all but this is certainly a feature that many have come to expect in a mid-range projector of this caliber and it just seems to me that the addition of this feature would gain accolades from both owners and potential owners of this unit. With the life expency of this projector being around 12 months (assuming no unforeseen problems with the product requiring a new model), it seems only logical that Epson would want this product to be competitive in the CIH arena.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? What can we do as a group to petition/rally Epson to our thinking (assuming you'd like to have this feature as much as I would)?
Thanks,
bob
Thhe Epson 1080UB would be perfect for me, in my opinion, if it included that vertical stretch option. I hope the new Mitshbishi will have the same qualities as the 1080UB with the VS option. Then I would certinly go with mitsubishi (if pricing is similar...)
Lee Weber 01-23-08, 11:26 PM Hey Wilson....
No offense but can you add a "?" at the end of the thread title...you made me and I assume many others think this was fact not a question.

Good point and I'm sorry about that. I can't see a way that I Can change it, unfortunately. Maybe a mod will see it and fix it for us. I don't know why I didn't do that to begin with. Sorry.

Wilson-Flyer 01-26-08, 09:14 AM I have to admit that I am somewhat surprised at the lack of response to this thread given the apparent interest in the goal that is the topic of the thread.
I at least thought, given was is supposedly a lot of Epson owners out there, that we could get a definative answer on their track record on even offering firmware upgrades.
I really thought, given all the epertise I've seen here over my years on this forum, that we could likely come to a concensus on whether this was a hardware limiting constraint or a software/firmware issue.
Guess I totally misjudged what I thought would be a grand interest in discussing this topic.
I must be the only one interested. Hard to believe but it must be so.

Hey, I am digging it BUT seem to have 1 issue I need to get resolved...Seems to be crushing blacks with some sources...hopefully its not the UB part of the projector!!
AND WILSON, I have no idea on Epsons firmware track record BUT V Stretch should be smeting they include if so!
bass addict 01-26-08, 06:31 PM I too was extremely surprised to find that VS was left off. I figured they would have learned a little from JVC's snafu on the RS1. I don't see why a firmware update couldn't fix the problem, unless it's an actual hardware issue.
I do know from experience with my TW700 that Epson has excellent CS. I would think if it were possible to be implemented via an update that they would make it happen.

Hey Webby, look at the bright side, at least it's not crushing grays. :D

;) Or Orange Crush....
I guess its me, no one else is speaking of it so I need to see if its on my end.
As I mentioned in the other Epson thread, it's unlikely they're going to change the software to do this as they are marketing an external scalar. Not that I don't agree I'd rather have the PJ doing it, I just don't think it's going to happen.

Yeah, an $8,000 add-on anamorphic solution for a $3,000 projector. Genius!
