I want to upgrade from my Mits HC3000U DLP to a decent 1080p LCD or DLP. Given the crop of new PJs, the various discounts, and pros/cons described by users, I've never had as hard a time as this time settling on a new PJ.
How close would you rate the 1080p LCDs? It appears the HC4900's black levels and lack of 1080p-24 are its key disadvantages. With the recent price drop, the HC5000 is about $600 more. Worth it for better blacks and 1080p-24 support? Or, are the new Panny/Epson UB worth almost double the HC4900's price?
For me, it isn't that I can't spring for the Epson UB, the priciest of the bunch here, but if it's a law of (really) diminishing returns for incrementally better quality, I'm mulling if the HC4900 is perhaps 90% as good? Or, is that rating it too high against the HC5000 or the new Panny/Epson UB?
