View Full Version : Circuit City sure can break it down kentondb 01-25-08, 06:32 PM http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/No/48/Ntt/playstation+3/searchType/user/Ntk/Challenger/Ntx/mode+matchallpartial/N/90000141/rpem/ccd/genericContent.do?oid=155929 Michael Mullis 01-25-08, 06:33 PM Interesting that they list the 45GB triple-layer disc in their HD DVD specs. TreyS 01-25-08, 06:40 PM I thought it was Triple layer at 51GB? (TL51) fronn 01-25-08, 06:41 PM They also seem to miss PCM under audio (on both sides, although it's more important for BD). Figgie 01-25-08, 07:22 PM I thought it was Triple layer at 51GB? (TL51) No they are correct but the information is dated :) Initially it was going to be Triple Layer 45 GB (15 GB per layer x 3 = 45 GB) but HDDVD group managed to increase the capacity of the layer without affecting the transfer to 17 GB per layer. So 3 x 17 GB = 51 GB :) fistofsouth 01-25-08, 09:29 PM I still prefer the Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/b******amb_link_5534812_2?ie=UTF8&node=393771011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_r=1SPFS32QBP7HZ8GXCASH&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=358207601&pf_rd_i=16401621) breakdown, but all stores would benefit if they made their clerks read one of these. You still run into clerks that think HD DVD is based on a red laser or that think HD DVD is limited to 1080i. At least if they read the CC breakdown they would know that both formats use 1080p. maingon 01-26-08, 12:33 AM i think the article is right that i dont there there will be bluray only or hd-dvd only. I think at the end it will be Dual format players. Once they start dropping in price I think thats what will sell. UCFKevin 01-26-08, 01:54 AM I thought this thread was gonna be about Circuit City being a really good dancer. <sigh> kentondb 01-26-08, 05:27 PM Oh, don't get me wrong. CC can dance like it's going out of style [business] Best Buy on the other hand dances like a kung-fu candy apple webdev511 01-26-08, 07:19 PM I thought it was Triple layer at 51GB? (TL51) TL45 is still valid, but will be deprecated by TL51. I still the the "Do I need a Blu-Ray TV to play those?" is the best format question I've heard to date. Blacklac 01-26-08, 07:51 PM I still the the "Do I need a Blu-Ray TV to play those?" is the best format question I've heard to date. That actually made me LOL. :D the red worm 01-26-08, 08:05 PM As a former CC employee the best quote ever was a customer asking me this "what's better HDTV or LCD?" Claw97000 01-26-08, 08:58 PM What we (different B&M store) get asked the most now is "Do I need an HDTV to watch TV in 2009?" TrevorS 01-26-08, 09:54 PM I thought it was Triple layer at 51GB? (TL51) TL45 is still valid, but will be deprecated by TL51. I still the the "Do I need a Blu-Ray TV to play those?" is the best format question I've heard to date. TL45 was developed and pre-tested/replicated, but it was TL51 that was ultimately submitted to the DVD Forum for approval. Although 51GB might seem more ambitious than 45GB, it turns out it's actually easier for our existing players to read TL51 than TL45. We are still awaiting official announcement as to the backwards compatibility of TL51, as well as the supported bitrate, but as far as I understand, it's more a question of "when", that "if"! My fngers remain crossed :)! UCFKevin 01-26-08, 10:56 PM Kenton, that response pleases me. Well done, sir. Newbie 01-27-08, 09:12 AM i think the article is right that i dont there there will be bluray only or hd-dvd only. I think at the end it will be Dual format players. Once they start dropping in price I think thats what will sell. I don't think so. I don't see any company investing R&D in dual format when there will be no HD exclusive studios. The way I see the market developing is: HD-exclusive studios announce by June at the latest that they are go dual-format (if not BD exclusive) Toshiba continues to sell their existing line (or minor changes) but essentially ceases development of HD. They cease selling them entirely within two years. They also have BD players on the market in time for the Christmas 2008 buying season. By autumn it will be easier to find Laserdisc players and discs in most bricks-and-mortar stores than HD players and discs. It's also noteworthy that the article mentions the PS3 as something coming in the future. |
