Any advice for a sub for a 12 x 14' room? 50% Music 50% Movies and Gaming. I had a cheap Athena p4000 for 1 year and a half and the amp just died and it probably isnt even worth fixing since I bought it for $170 from an online supplier and its out of warranty. I just want a good tight sound for my small room. Maybe a good one for a few price ranges (budget, mid, expensive)

Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I do love good bass sound but am not in the know when it comes to home equipment and want something a bit better than the box stores.

It really depends on your budget. I also had the 4000 for my first sub, loved it for sq but it ran out of gas for my use.

IMO the most inexpensive upgrade above the 4000 would be the Bic H-100 in the $200 range. If you want to step up to $350 and above your options really open up with offering from ED, SVS, HSU, AV123 and Epik. Stick with any of those and you won't go wrong.

I agree with Jakeman, those are all great brands. I would suggest you go to the CRAIGSUB thread. You will get information overload, but Craig independently tested and rated several SUBS so you can find some unbiased information to help you find what you need.

try the eDA2-300. Bass is tight, and low enough you can feel. just the right size for a small room. THey also provide quick customer service responses, and have heard they have a good warranty. Will be a big upgrade from the athena. Only downfall is it will take 2-4 weeks to ship and build. Check out the elemental design website.

Thanks so much for your help everyone. I am looking at all of those and will determine based on my budget.

One more question: What should I do with this Athena P4000? It wont turn on (I plug it in and the led wont light up and it wont work at all). Dump it? Get it fixed? Sell it as used goods for $40? I hate to see things go to waste. Keep in mind I only paid $170 for it.

Thanks again for your help.

I had a 10" Mission sub that was a floor model. It's amp would work intermittently and then eventually gave out all together. It actually felt good throwing it in the dumpster....especially knowing I was replacing it with something better. Go ahead, give it a shot:D

Be sure to check the fuse before you throw it away.I've seen quite a few people toss them and it was just a blown fuse.

Thanks for the advice, the trash does sound mighty fine after the company failed to call or email me back (Athena).

Where is the fuse located exactly on this model? there is no obvious turn screw or anything like that it seems.

Thanks again,

Paul
