Hello I've got my VCR's s-video out connected to the S-video in on my Canon MiniDV camcorder. I've got firewire going from the camcorder to the Toshiba RD-XS35. I'm trying to pass the signal through to the DVD Recorder however I get a message on the Toshiba that says "Check DV tape" when I tell it to record.

Can I pass the signal through without first copying it to tape? I never have before -- the signal usually goes straight through to my mac for capturing on the computer. How do I do that on this Toshiba?
Thanks!

Edit: I use that same setup to record on the Philips 3575 and it works like any other input.
The Toshiba doesn't.

Good question; never tried, and my camera doesn't do pass-through. But why would you want to do this on a DVD Recorder? On a computer which doesn't have any way of capturing from analog inputs, it can be useful, but why not just plug your analog source (VCR) directly into the XS35's S-video and two RCA audio (red & white) inputs?

I was using it as a poor man's (or what I had around :D) TBC to get rid of the flickering and flashing I was getting from the VHS tapes being recorded to a Philips 3575 DVD/HDD recorder. It worked wonders.

I thought I needed that with the Toshiba RD-XS35 that I bought on Ebay last week (too cheap to turn down ) but I don't. The Toshiba gets rid of the flickering and flashing on it's own.

It's a good thing too because I can't get the Toshiba to pass through. It teases you by passing through the signal to 2 "preview" screens but when you actually try to record you get a message that says no tape in the DV camcorder and won't do it. It wants to play back a tape you have in the camcorder and record it.

I would still like to be able to pass through to the Toshiba but not crucial if anyone knows how to do it.
Thanks.
