Need sub woofer recommendations for a room that is 12x15 with one wall that is somewhat open. Has hardwood floors. The catch is that this is a rental condo, so who knows where we might be in a year. Budget is around $300, give or take a few dollars.

I just bought a Denon 3808 receiver. 90% use is HDTV and normal dvd movies and 10% FM radio / internet streaming music.

Want something that I can order and receive right away. Almost bought a polk sub from Amazon.com until I read the forums here that said their subs aren't very good.

I'd also be interested in 5.1 speakers since all I have right now are two JBL S310 for my L&R which I'd like to replace since they are HUGE.

Thanks experts!

for < $300 I would recommend the Bic H-100. Check the Authorized dealers ebay auctions for the best deals on it.

Thanks for the input. I took your recommendation and started poking around. It appears with a $300 budget the choices are: (in no particular order)
1) Cadence CSX-15
2) BIC H-100
3) SVS PB-10NSD

I do watch more tv / dvd than music, but I do want quality music output. At the same time, I want people to know / feel I'm watcing Jurassic Park. Know what I mean?

Can anyone break down my current list of subs or add a new option?

just my opinion, but it seems like a ratio of $$ spent on AVR to $$ spent on sub should be a lot smaller than $1600:$300

I completely agree...if I were the OP, I'd wait a little and save more money to get a sub that's more in proportion to the amount he's spent on other stuff. There's no way I'd spend $1600 on a receiver and under $500 on a sub. But if he can't wait, the subs he's looking at are good choices at his <$500 budget.

The receiver is $1300 per amazon. I want/need the HDMI switching. Have a Samy 50" plasma, Oppo DVD, XBOX 360, and a DTV HR20 that all support 1.3 HDMI. But yes, I see your point. I just don't want to blow huge amounts of $$$ and feel that the TV and receiver are where I want to put a majority of my investment. I still have to buy speakers yet and want to stay around $4,000 total.

I'm probably going with the cadence csx-12 for a sub.
