I often see people post about how a 58" plasma has xx% for viewing area than a 50". Or a 52" lcd has xx% more than a 46".

Is there a referenced article or calculator to determine this or just a simple math problem that I can't think of how to set-up?

I made a quick and dirty Excel sheet that takes the diagonal measurement and calculates the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the screen as well as area. PM me and I'll be happy to email it to you.

Basically, for any 16:9 tv, the area is .4273*(d^2), where d = diagonal measurement. So for a 58" tv,

area = .4273 (58*58), or about 1437 sq. in.
