View Full Version : Magnavox ZV450MW8 problem viewing recorded discs?

I bought the Magnavox ZV450MW8 VHS/DVD recorder combo for the main purpose of transferring some old tapes to dvd. Recently, I've recorded some programs from television (analog cable). When I go to watch them on the same unit I recorded them with, there is no problem. But when I try to watch them on another player, nothing happens. Is there something I'm forgetting to do when doing the recording process? I didn't see a "finalize" option or anything when completing a recording. I felt like an idiot when letting a co-worker borrow one of these recorded discs only to find that she couldn't watch it. I thought for a moment that it could be the format that's the issue as these are +R dvds, but she tried it in two different players and her PC with no success. My other dvd player at home plays +R and it won't play on it either. Any help anyone can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Finalize option is in the Disc Edit menu.

Thanks. I will give that a try. I'm assuming I can still go back and finalize any discs that I've recorded previously?

Yes, you can wait.... just don't wait too long. I've read of many people who waited until their unit went bad and they couldn't finalize lots of discs. They had to somehow find the same model/mfgr, etc.

To finalize a ZV450MW8 disc (Manavox dvd recorder vcr combo model ZV450MW8). Using remote press stop button (Black Square) twice. Press SETUP button > Disc Edit > Finalize > Yes. Use up, down and ok button to navigate thru the menus.

I had a problem with a DVD+R disc, my Philips HDD recorder would not let me finalize the disc (finalize option was grayed out). I put the disc into my Panasonic DVD recorder, it allowed me to finalize the disc.

Odd that the Panny finalized a Philips disc!?

Anyway, your Finalize option was greyed out cuz there must have been a timer rec program that was supposed to start within 1-hour... "Finalize" won't be available even 59 minutes before start of a timer rec program.

When I run into that, I use one of my other 3575's, but if I didn't have more than one, I'd either wait till after the timer rec program is done, or delete the timer rec, Finalize, then re-enter the timer rec program.

No. I did not get the disc confused. In fact, it also removed the empty title from the disc.

Thanks Wajo,

Now I know why the finalized disc option was greyed out.

Wow! You might have found a great feature?

What model Panny did you use?

Does anybody have any universal code files for the Magnavox ZV450MW8 ? Pronto, Marrantz, URC, anything would be great. If you send me a file I would be happy to provide you with a file of graphics for your remotes free of charge.

Thanks in advance,
Vincent
