Any word on the new Panasonic DVD Recorders talked about at CES: Pictures, Spec's, Release dates, etc?

Wow, can't believe this got all the way back to page 4! Seems just like yesterday people were posting left and right. Here's the link, it's pretty pathetic, especially from Panasonic. A step backwards if your ask me(they've eliminated the tuner on some models).:(

Wow. Looks like there's no reason to even waste time reading or participating in this subforum anymore, unless I'm having an especially perplexing problem with one of my older units.

They might as well just go back to concentrating on VCR's. They're going in that direction now, anyway.

R.I.P.

wajo, I know it's not the right forum, but by any chance have you see any prices on the new Panny Plasma TV's? Thanks.

No one seems to have prices yet, but here's a chart on the 2008 PZ850 line (bottom of page) (http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prModelDetail?storeId=11301&catalogId=13251&itemId=215669&modelNo=Content01072008044553219&surfModel=Content01072008044553219), but they've also got three other lines (PZ85, PZ80 and PX80, short description here (http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/01/06/panasonic-revamps-its-plasma-lineup/)).

One article said Panasonic has 1/2 the market in plasma TVs.

R.I.P.Unfortunately, I'm starting to agree. Looks like the future belongs to HD-DVR's.

I have to reluctantly admit that I have been feeling this way for quite some time. My newest recorders are the EH55 and EH75, both pretty old models from the current point of view. Since I have become dependant on the hard drives, and there haven't been many new machines with hard drives for quite a while, my knowledge base is becoming less and less useful.

My Samsung DVD recorder has just kicked the bucket and now I'm looking to replace it. I've zeroed in on the Panny DMREZ27, but I also noticed the new models due in April for the DMREZ28 announced at CES. I'm weighing the pros and cons of buying the current model versus waiting for the new model.

The feature set for the new model, according to the chart, doesn't seem too different from the current model. I also wonder about if the first machines built for a new model might be buggier than ones produced later in the year. I guess I'm leaning toward getting the current model.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jon

Jtso,

While Panasonic (or other manufacturers) may not admit that there are bugs and design flaws in certain models you may be sure that they are aware of the problems. After all, they get customer complaints and warranty claims; they probably read user reviews on Amazon, Best Buys and Circuit City, among others; and comments on this and other forums.

Does that mean that the bugs and design flaws get corrected in subsequent models? Not always.

Sometimes one "pays their money and takes their chances."

I'm inclined to hope that the difference between the '07 and '08 models is that the bugs introduced in the '07s have been fixed in the '08s. First-gen ATSC tuner units--not just the Pannies--seem to have a lot of unresolved problems, as if they were rushed to market on short notice. (But why? the digital switchover has been in the works for a long time.) Anyway, the current Panny lineup seems like weak tea indeed compared to my 2004-vintage E85.....

I wouldn't think they could be any more buggy than this years EZ lineup, but who knows........Personally I'd be inclined to wait for the new models.

I just got back from BestBuy and they have the new Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-EZ28 available. They actually had the EZ27 as a display model and the EZ28 in the box for purchase. The employee had no idea what the difference was between the two (no surprise there).

I had been waiting to purchse my dvd recorder until these new models came out, but I still do not know what the new features are or what the improvements are for the EZ28.

Does any one know?
