having not seen a 79avi yet I was recently very excited to start work on a Pioneer Elite 79avi for a customer of mine, this particular unit is being modified for SDI output of course ;) complete with a custom SDI out on and off switch and a high-end 240v transformer based input mod in addition to full region free capability, macrovision disable and PAL native output, a heck of a lineup ;)

anyway, I just wanted to post for those that have been thinking of SDI and have a 79avi, if you have this amazing piece and were thinking of getting a SDI output, DO IT NOW! the 79avi is one of the finest pieces of gear I have ever had on my bench and the SDI output is to die for, I don't know if it is the super high-end build and power supply but damn I am in love :p this is probably the cleanest SDI output I have ever seen

and no, I have not compared the 4:2:2 480i HDMI output to SDI, that doesn't interest me  well it kinda does :D

all I know is now I am now seriously considering getting one of these for myself

a note for DIYers, the 79avi is a super duper hard piece to mod, and the guts DO NOT like the SDI intrusion at all, I ultimately solved that after alot of head scratching

I've had a DV-868 (DV-59) SDI modded player for years and it puts out a lovely picture but just like the 79 it suffers from some varieties of CUE.

Depending on the MPEG decoder perofrmance maybe the Denon 3800BD would be good for HDSDI mod(?)

yeah, the 79 has some slight cue issues, nothing the DVDO CUE filter can't correct, not a deal breaker IMHO ;)

there are various other sources I could use, but I am patiently :p waiting on PMS to release their HD-SDI kit, been waiting forever
