There is still some good news for HD DVD. Dolmen Video and Mikado have announced to go HD DVD only in Italy.
Their first four movies, which will be available starting January, will be:

All HD DVDs will be presented in the OAR and will be encoded utilizing AVC.
Except for the price of 24,99 EUR, there are no other infos regarding extras and languages.
I am going to buy kyashan, know as casshern in the USA and UK.:)
Will they have English subtitles? I'ld get Casshern, but I'll skip the others.

Shinobi has been available in Japan for a long time on HD DVD already and also in France, but I guess no English subs on any releases yet. Don't know if the new ones have those either. I'm going for Reincarnation and Casshern as I already have Shinobi (SHV's Japanese release).

well I have Shinobi in SDDVD and that has English Subs. Which is odd as it was an import :)

Casshern! Hell ya. It'd be nice if it has English subs, but as long as the video and audio are top notch, I'm definitely going to order this one.
Good news! I did not buy the Japanese Shinobi but I have the French one (I had no time to watch it yet though!). Does anyone know when the decision to go HD DVD only was taken (I mean, before or after Warner's announcement to go BD only)?

Screw the format war. They are titles that people WANT.. available in HD-DVD. Since some folks cannot play both formats, and are limited to one (be it Blu-Ray or HD-DVD), this is still an improvement. It is also one of the nice perks regarding HD-DVD (no region encoding).
MidnightWatcher 01-30-08, 11:15 AM Some of these HD DVD imports are excellent. Certainly beats importing standard DVDs when you don't have a region-free player and have to manually do so many workarounds. :D
How accurate is this info, concerning the OP post?
I emailed Tony at Xploited and this is his response:
"they were announced back in nov. for release in jan., but still have not officially been announced with a release date. it looks like whoever posted that may have found some old info from nov. since jan. has come and gone (almost!) without any official word on those. so...we'll see if they ever materialize!"

That's a little disappointing, but hopefully something comes from it.
01 Distribution just announced that will support HD DVD with the cartoon WINX. it shouldn`t have english subs though. they distribute the golden compass in italy by the way.
on march the 18th dolmen officially debuts with HD DVD in italy with casshern. it won`t have english subs though. it will feature both italian and the origina japanese soundtrack. I hope it is ok to put this what should be the screen shot of the extras menu.
