Recent news for the HD-DVD camp has been good. Sales are actually strong following price cuts.

The only thing missing to really turn around HD-DVD is the announcement of the release of classic movies which no one expects to be released anytime soon.

Imagine a special edition of Braveheart being released on HD-DVD. I'd buy it today for retail!

A few movies like that would sure give HD-DVD a boost.

Why in hell hasn't this happened?

Yes, Hardware has picked-up again:

So just need to get the discs out there, and the sales should follow...

The only real hope HD DVD has is a rush of titles before Q3. It of course takes time to do this, so don't expect anything q1 to be too bombastic.

But unless they put out an avalanche of high profile catalog titles (or at least announce them) by May, it's pretty well game over. and they deserve to lose if they fail to at least try to do this strategy, it's all they really have left to do.

I didn't realize that Toshiba had the ability to force Paramount to release titles. Sheesh, I just hope they can hold on to Paramount until they can get exclusive summer releases.

Assuming the other shoe doesn't drop, the summer looks very strong for HD:
Iron Man
Mummy 3
Hulk
Hellboy 2
Wanted
Kung Fu Panda
Indiana Jones (its Paramount atleast)
Spiderwick Chronicles
Eagle Eye

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Leatherheads
Tropic Thunder
Love Guru

And several others I can't think of off the top of my head. A lot of strong action movies that tend to do well too. Better line up than they have ever had even with the defection (which will only really hurt for Dark Knight and Harry Potter).

Even if these releases don't save HD, it will CRUSH Blu to not have them. Please note I am not advocating said crushing (I am proudly nuetral), but the absence of these releases would be highly detrimental to the mass adoption of any standard. I almost wonder if Toshiba is just holding on as long as possible to maintain their stranglehold on DVD royalties and to combat any threat to that revenue stream. I find it grossly unlikely they could come back and "win".

I refuse to buy another HD DVD........unless it's "must have" catalog titles.

Day & date new releases? Nah, I'll rent. Movies aren't what they used to be.

HD DVD better bring the heat with quality catalog titles....or it's CURTAINS!

I haven't purchased a HD DVD since Pans Labyrinth and there is a gap before I purchased it. The stuff they are trickling out is not interesting to me. I influenced two co-workers to purchase HD DVD players recently. One went the whole nine yards and got a complete HT system. I'm sorta loosing interest in HD movies because of the lack of releases and interesting titles (titles that appeal to me).

Sorry. This has already been discussed in many threads the last month. Time to move on. I'm sure there are people who have a vested interest in HD-DVD considering what needs to be done.
