I only played through one time and it was pretty quick. But, I enjoyed it. Overall, it was good, but not uber awesome. The gameplay mechanic that I enjoyed the most was the ability to turn the dinos against the human enemies with flares or destroying dino eggs. Also really liked using the bow and arrow. The stealth knife kills were pretty cool too. I thought that getting knocked down by unseen dinos was kinda neat and a little scary at first, but after awhile it just became annoying. And I am not a big fan of how the outsides of the screen turn so red when you take damage (just needs to be scaled down a bit).

btw I played the PS3 version, but they should be identical. If I buy the game it will be for PC so I can use M/Kb and max out the graphics, settings, framerate, etc. I may wait awhile until the price comes down for this one.

I give it one thumb up.

Cool I'll have to check it out tonight.

In an interview they said they wanted to bring back some of the elements from the original and they thought the series took some really odd moves.

I'd have to agree. The first one felt a bit more natural. By turok 3 it had strayed a long ways from that.

I look forward to killing dinos. I want to play as a dino actually.

Atmosphere reminded me of the N64 version, which is a huge plus. I also loved the voice acting w/Ron Pearlman & Tim Olyphant.

Will be picking it up for the PC in March...

OXM gave it 7/10. They said it felt pretty cool for a while and that the outdoor jungle environments were slick, but the game got repetitive and looked like dog doo in the interiors. (Hmmm... Far Cry, anyone?)

Gametrailers gave it an 8.3. This may be worth a look once I have some time to catch up on other games. :)

Overall I thought it was ok, there was some slowdown in a few parts which I can't really accept these days, hopefully that's fixed in the full version. Has some nice eye-candy when you have your knife equipped and you get in close enough to grab your enemy, be it man or dino. I'm interested to see how the multiplayer pans out, but I don't think this is going to raise the high bar that COD has set...though it is just a demo.

think I'm in the minority here thinking it sucks it hard. why is the best weapon the knife? With the bow or guns you have to unload a full clip to take down a dino, but with the knife just run up and get the one hit kill animation. And there is absolutely nothing keeping you from charging up on anything. Turok can take so much punishment there isn't even a challenge to stop you from going on a knifing rampage.

While the animations for the knife kills are cool the first couple of times it gets old quickly.

I liked it, but there was like no direction at all in the caves which got really frustrating, the game is really dark so if your like me on a projector, I had to go into man cave mode and control all light to be happy with it. I thought the game play was good once I got out to where I could see what was going on, multiplayer is going to be tough to stack up against COD, but then again COD is getting old with the same maps over and over.

I thought it was meh. Has nowhere near the fun factor that the N64 version had. It's just another passable FPS that is unfortunately hitting the market after several excellent ones (COD4 and Halo 3).

i heard the multiplayer deathmatches should be good, but only having 7 maps to choose from is going to be it's downfall, i give it 2 months absolute tops. i'll buy it when it goes on sale for $37 at either Target or Best Buy, but i wouldn't personally pay full price for it...

and the original one for the N64 is still far and away the best one yet, too bad there was no on-line multiplayer 10 years ago, but then again who would have thought that they couldn't better a 10 year old game 10 years later. why is it that most game are getting worse as technology advances?!?!?

I'll never buy another Turok game after Evolution. That was so bug ridden and awful it was pretty much impossible to play even with the cheats and level skips.

The people that gave that an okay review should hang their heads in shame. they obviously didn't play very much of it.

The demo is terrible really, it's just kinda not well thought out, besides the little cutscene kills there is nothing new or interesting about the game. It's about as good as Jericho, which was garbage as well.

Far Cry Ugly Interiors Sez WHAT now??!?Those are two very nice examples from a sea of otherwise doggy-doo interiors. Boarding the shipwreck, blah. Huts, blah. Early cave sequence, blah. Some of the science lab stuff was kind of cool, though.

flare one of them and watch them all duke it out.

also calibrate your screen, i never felt like i NEEDED a flashlight (though it wouldnt have hurt)

is it that easy to get lost when you're following someone?

These demos are one of my favorite things about XBox Live. I have purchased a number of games that I likely never would have, due to an impressive demo. In the case of Turok, Live just saved me the $60 I would've wasted on a highly disappointing game.

This happened to me actually. I didn't use the flare, and a few times I'd hear Ron Perlman yell something, and when I turned around I'd have no idea where he went.

I thought the demo was just...ok. I liked the good surround sound use, and the look of the caves, but something about the main characters movement seemed off.

Not a must buy for me, but def a rental when it comes out.

Meh.

I might rent it. I hated how even when I was outside, I was still in a hallways. And what I mean by that it's not really an "outside" environement...you're basically still in a 20 foot wide hallway that makes it feel very linear. There's were no alternative paths to take or anything to explore.

The one knife kills also felt ridiculous. In the days of a great FPS being released every month or two, this doesn't seem to cut the mustard.

I was very much looking forward to Turok (since shooting dinosaurs is a refreshing change when it comes to shooters) but I was very disappointed. It doesn't seem like it will be a bad game, but it seems way to average in a day and age when there are a ton of great shooters out. I'll pass.

Thought the demo was okay, but I went ahead and purchsed the game. I needed something new, glad I purchased it. Very nice weapons, lots to choose from. There are a few jaw dropping momments when like you come to a cliff edge and can see the whole island you are on. With huge dinos roaming around, dino birds flying around, lush jungles, pretty impressive scenes. The thing I hate is you get knocked down a LOT, gets annoying after awhile.

The knife is a one hit kill but when you are facing 3 or 4 creatures you will probably die because you have to wait for them to get close to do the kill. The bow is also a one hit kill, just pull back on it harder and let it fly. Boss battles are not that great, can be annoying. Sniper rifle is pretty cool. Dual wielding shot guns is a blast. Its also fun to attach a flare to an enemry troop and watch the dinos swarm over the guy. I would probably rate it an 8.

When I played the first Turok, I was totally mesmerized by the whole ancient jungle civilization environment. And even though fog was a way to limit the draw distance, I liked how you could hear the dinosaurs running around but couldn't see them until they were right on you. Almost every other Turok game has stepped so far away from that succesful formula that I've just about given up hope on this story line. It looks like I have no reason to waste my money on another Turok flop. I had such high hopes for this series.

Impressions:

This demo blows, big time. Just horrible - it feels like the turok crap from last generation, except that turok and his cronies all look like marcus fenix and co. from gears of war.

yeah, there are very little campaign achievements. I tried it last night for a few mins, got up to just passed the T-rex. The aiming is certainly a little off, but I did like what I saw. need to play more obviously. i loved the first and only the first turok, the rest where horrible.

I'm with you on the love of the first game. I picked it up with my N64 and it was an incredible experience. I recall at that time I actually enjoyed the "fog".

I even enjoyed "Seeds of Evil", but it had started to move away from that feeling. The 3rd of the series really started to fall into the standard FPS realm, which is what this one felt like on the demo.

Granted, I'll still give this a rental.

Yeah, it's been so long I barely remember playing Turok 2. I bought it without thinking just because I thought it would be Turok 1 with multiplayer capabilities. But Turok 1 was so successful because it didn't really seem like a typical FPS. I think when they started heading towards the typical FPS they started falling off.

Someone asked about weapons before the server went down, here are the weapons I have found in Turok.

Every weapon has an alternate fire option, some are very powerful, some not so much.

Sniper rifle. Three levels of zoom.

Knife.

Bow and arrow with exploding arrows or normal arrows.

SMG. Dual wieldable.

Plasma rifle. Can also fire out a ball of plasma that explodes.

Shotgun. Dual wieldable and fires rapidly if trigger held. Can also fire out a flare that attaches to things. Dinos run to the flare. If attached to a soldier dinos attack the soldier.

Hand held exploding weapon. I have no idea what this is called but it fires out a glowing round that attaches to anything. You then pull the trigger a second time and it explodes, killing all in the area.

Flame thrower. Very impressive. Also fires out a blast of nepalm, kills everything. Holds tons of ammo. Very impressive reload animation as you fill the gun with a liquid tube.

Pistol.

Chain gun. Holds TONS of ammo, devastating.

Rocket launcher.

Standard grenades.

I think that is it. There may be more weapons, I am not done with the game yet.

I am enjoying the game so far. Some quirks here and there like long checkpoints but overall a decent fps sp expience so far. The dinos are very well done and as you progress through the game you'll see impressive ai from them and some bosses are HUGE. fps fans should at least rent this.

I played the demo all the way thru last night. It held my attention but based on what I saw I don't think it merits a $60 purchase. Visually, I really wasn't all that impressed. Everything had a flat, murky appearance to it. The weapons were also disappointing; even the plasma gun (one of the better weapons in the original Turok on N64) had little kick to it. The method for swapping and changing weapons is also very clunky, especially if you run out of ammo while fighting a dinosaur. Based on the demo, the game could have also benefitted from some overhead map that you could refer to. The dinosaurs themselves were well done and probably the best part of the demo. Overall though, it struck me as a competent but uninspired game. Might be worth a purchase at $30 but definitely not $60 for me.

I too remember Turok on N64...that was my second favorite game, right behind Goldeneye.

I purchased the 360 version and it's not quite up to that level. It's not terrible, but definitely could use some improving.
The graphics aren't perfect but I sorta like that they remind me of a comic book. I don't know what it is about it but I think it looks like a 3D comic.
The single player is really fun so far, the story is interesting, weapons are cool(except the beginner rifle). What I'm disappointed about is the poorly executed multi player and co-op.
My buddy gets on Monday night and says "hey, wanna play Turok online?" I'm thinking cool, lets play co-op.... not so cool. After we finally find the co-op mode it's basically you playing against the computer in a death match... I was expecting it to be like Halo where you could play campaign with friends.
We also jumped into the regular multi player and that was weird too. Even the menu kinda stinks. The maps were ok I guess but it just seemed disorganized. There was no coherence, you didn't feel like you were working with a team.

Game is probably worth $30 like said before...I'm having fun on the solo but wishing I hadn't spent $60 on it.

well, i just finished it. I must say I really enjoyed the single player. it isn't very long, I couldn't say really how long it was...10hrs12? I've had a lot on my mind this week so i've played it in between to relax a little, but I never noticed how many hours I put into it.

I'm a graphics whore, but i don't get why so many are hard on this game. It's not perfect, neither was Halo3. The world was never boring, looked good to me, and was super smooth the entire time. I don't know if it was another overly high expectations scenario for this game again or what, but I liked it...for sinlge player, I don't touch mutliplayer anymore. The story made sense and flowed well( more then I can say for something like halo3 or even bioshock at times). Is it better then the h3's or cod4/bioshocks's of the world...heck no, but I still enjoyed it.

I'd give it an 8/10 for single player.

Now, burnout here I come.

Finished the game. Weak ending, real weak. EASY final boss battle, took about 3 minutes. Later levels made it very hard to see where you where going, even on a linear path. Enjoyed the game, not worth $60, definitely worth $40 or a used copy. Replay value, very low.

Xbox magazine secured an exclusive review of the game like a month ago. They gave it a 7, said it had potential to be incredible, but suffers from what everyone has been saying on here.

i will say one bad thing...game is dark on some levels. You got a bad display, this will point it out very quickly. I never had any issues on my dell 2407-hc, but I did need to adjust my projector and it was still dark, my panny plasma wasn't bad either.
