Hello, all.
I looked around and didn't find any threads I thought were applicable, so I started a new one. If there is one, please link it;)

I currently have an Optoma HD-72 and am thinking of replacing it with a 1080p to take better advantage of the HD discs. My budget would be around 3 gs. I was hoping for some new goodies coming out of CES, but I didn't see anything special. I do not want LCD. DLP or it's derivatives are more to my liking. From what I have read so far, though, DLP better get with the program with more 3 chip models at competitive prices or 3 LCD is going to wipe the floor with them:eek:

I currently sit about 1.75 times screen size with my current setup. New screen suggestions are welcomed, also, as I will be going from a pull down to a fixed screen when I move in the next year or so. Hopefully! Right now my room is somewhat but not completely light controlled.

So, what do you experts think? Is there currently anything out that I can fit within my budget that will be enough of an improvement or am I wishfully thinking?

Thanks in advance!

Tell me about your screen and how you will mount the pj.

In that budget range, you might want to take a look at the RS1. It seems to be hitting that mark recently. Not a DLP, but it has some great things about it.

Other than that, I would say you would want to up your budget for one of the nice DLPs like the 15s1. I don't know what they are streeting for though so it might be a too big of a stretch.

Any of the above will be an upgrade that is visible IMHO.

Here's Evan's picks:

Editor's Choice Awards
JVC DLA-RS2
Epson Pro Cinema 1080 UB
Panasonic PT-AE2000
Mitsubishi HC4900
Epson Home Cinema 720

Worth a look.

I am currently using the Chief universal mount. The screen is an Optoma Grey Wolf II, another reason I'm looking to change.
Yeah, I saw those editor's choices. Most of them are over my budget. I could stretch it a litte, but not several hundred.
Thanks

I whole heartedly disagree that LCD's sweep the floor with single chip DLP's. Granted, LCD's are substantially less money, no question there. But I demo tons of projectors for clients, and taking money out of the equation, I rarely have people prefer an LCD to a good DLP. Again, not considering the money factor.

Now, in your budget of $3k or thereabouts, honestly there are virtually no DLP's that would work well. About the least expensive are the Infocus IN82 and the BenQ W10000 (or 5000), but both are a good amount more money.

Ultimately though, it is going to be which you like the look of better, and only you will be able to determine that.

There will be no floor wiping at all. LCD and 3chip DLP are in stratospherically different market segments and are in no way competitive. They are not aimed at the same customer.
