Anybody, what should I know beforehand? What should I look for? Is it already known that one of these is better than the other?? One is 3 chip DLP, the other is 3 chip dila.

your two cents are worth dollars to me right now.

thanks, Jaime

Wrong....

IN78 is a single chip 720P DLP. You should be comparing against the IN82 which is a singlechip 1080P DLP.

You should go in with an open mind, but Kras is correct and the RS1 will win if set up correctly. :) :)
The RS1 is in a different league (and costs more). Not a fair comparison and the IN82 would be closer. I am moving to an RS1 from an IN76 right now after comparing the two.

The IN82(&IN78) are ISFccc and better calibrated picture - the RS1 requires a Lumagen to get the same picture - however it has better native contrast. As always - you need to define better!

Jaime,

Go with an open mind.. However, with the infocus see if you see any rainbows and if that affects you..

thanks, guys. Should have remembered that the "other" 3 chip dlp was the 777. I was misinformed of the 78, or perhaps he said "DC3" and I took it to mean 3-chip.

Well, for the price of the 78 I could have gotten a slightly used RS1 thru AVS had I acted on quickly :-(

You'd have had to act a lot quicker than I, I missed the RS1 as well. FWIW, I'm waiting for reviews on the new BenQ models (I have an IN76).

Well, just got done seeing the RS1 and the IN78 and I'd have to say to me I can see the differences with the RS1 being the clear, and vibrant winner. There was something unnatural about the light of the 78. It seemed brighter, but unnatural....sort of like when it's just about to rain and the sun peers thru dark clouds, then the "magnified", harsh, way too bright sun makes your eyes hurt.

When watching Apocolypto, there are some scenes where light bends around the natives as they enter the sacrificial area. This light was way too intense. By contrast, the RS1 presents a pleasant image full of richness, vibrancy and balance. Oh, yeah, much better detail. I can tell one of the Mayans doing the killing had a headgear with rich golden pheasant feathers on the RS1, but could not tell that on the 78.

Think I'll hold out for an RS2 or a slightly used RS1.

Was this mistake purposeful or a persons lack of knowledge? If the first, the only motive I can think is they wanted to sell that Infocus.

Well, glad you made your own decision...the RS1 is a killer piece.

None that have fallen through the cracks yet...BUT, I may be getting more. If anyone missed out but is still interested (and not in a pressing hurry as I'm not sure how long)...feel free to email me at jason@avscience.com.

Jason Turk

Oh sorry it would be the same $2999 deal (again, assuming there are more).
