Microsoft just announced a HUGE lineup for the Xbox Live Video Marketplace. One of the shockers was the inclusion of the James Bond films in HD. As you know, these MGM films are owned by parent company Sony. It’s quite interesting that they are allowing these titles to appear on Xbox Live Marketplace knowing that video downloads for PSN are around the corner. Here’s the release with the full list of new shows and movies.

Did you know that Xbox LIVE is the home to the largest library of on
demand high definition entertainment content? Our library of
blockbuster entertainment continues to grow and today Xbox 360 owners
will see the kick-off of a strong month of content coming from new
partners like ABC, Disney Channel and MGM.

“LOST” fans looking to catch up on past episodes and find more hidden
clues need look no further than Xbox 360. U. S. Xbox LIVE members will
be able to start downloading TV shows from ABC Television, including
“LOST,” “Ugly Betty,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Grey’s Anatomy” this
coming month. All episodes will be available in high definition.

The launch of “LOST” coincides with the show’s season premiere today,
with new episodes arriving on Xbox LIVE within 24 hours of airing on TV.
Shows and TV movies from Disney Channel will be launching later this
month as well, including “Hannah Montana,” “High School Musical,” “High
School Musical 2″ and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” adding to the
more than 700 episodes of kid-friendly content already available on the
service.

This month will also mark the launch of new releases and classic library
titles from MGM available for download beginning the week of February
18. Additional movies from studios such as Lionsgate, Warner Bros,
Paramount and New Line will also be added to the service, including the
video game documentary “King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters” about two
gamers who battle for the world record score in Donkey Kong. Many films
will be available in high definition.

Movies hitting Xbox LIVE this month include:

* Mr. Brooks (MGM, available in SD and HD)

* The complete Rocky series (MGM, available in SD and HD)

* Films from the James Bond series (MGM, available in SD and
HD)

* The Usual Suspects (MGM, available in SD and HD)

* 3:10 to Yuma (Lionsgate, available in SD and HD)

HD versions of Bond you say? Good that must mean we'll be seeing them on Blu-Ray shortly.

Actually, the Bond series is still owned by MGM. The 1st twenty at least. Sony for a time controlled the MGM HOME ENTERTAINMENT distribution in the U.S. before the MGM board of directors decided they weren't doing a good enough job and switched to FOX. That's why the Bond Ultimate Editions from 2006 were released by FOX. Casino Royale, Quantam Solace and whatever else may come out from now on is owned by Sony, but everything before is NOT.

I just wish TV shows were cheaper. By the time you catch up on a series you could have bought the DVD set for much cheaper.

Just another option for me. since December I have been having problems recieving my local ABC channel in HD so I couldn't watch Lost in hidef. I like how I can simply download it now that they offer the option. Plus no commercials to skip.

I download a decent amount of HD movies from xbox live, but there is no doubt I'd buy more if the 120gb was cheaper or if they allowed downloading to external drives. I had to delete about 30% of my content just to download POTC:AWE. There are certainly going to have to address this they expect many of current owners to use this service as a major source for TV shows.

Agreed, if I want to essentially rent a TV show it shouldn't cost as much as owning it, high definition or not.

You own shows and rent movies. Have you not ever downloaded a show from the XBLM?

This is just the beginning! This is the precursor to MS's master plan of HD domination via dlc. :D

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will soon be a distant memory. Why would the studios incur the costs of HDM when they can digitally download films at a fraction of the cost?*

*I don't actually believe that...yet. But it will be reality at some point, right? :)

Yeah, I would love a season pass or something. I wish NBC had more of their shows. I missed Life and Journeyman the first time 'round and would watch them off marketplace (in HD) for $10-15. I know I can download them, but the video quality is a joke. No way would I pay $3 an episode though.

I also wish the 120GB HDD was cheaper - $180 is just WAY too much! Also, I wish the movies were closer to $4.00 than $6.00, although six is still much cheaper than going to the theater.

I get my movies from the Library...for free.

Im waiting for them to carry HD-DVD or BLu-Ray before I buy my next player.

The companies would much prefer downloadable only content for movies and games. Im suprised the push for that hasn't been bigger.

O sorry, I've never watched a TV show on XBL, I've only messed around with the movies. From what I've heard other people say and from my experience with the movies I assumed it was a watch it and it deletes itself type deal. If you buy it and own it then MS needs to stop ripping people off for the 120gb drive because that's a pretty good deal.

I never understood the concern about 20gigs to begin with. I would download a movie or tvshow and when I was done I would simply delete it. Why do you need it to stay if you are going to watch it for only a short period?

When are they going to start a subscription/Netflix type option for the marketplace.
$6 for a movie is rediculous when I can get the same movie on Netflix, plus 5 others that month for $10. Obviously they would make less money per movie/show, but I would also bet that usage would increase dramatically.

Do you even know what the usage is now?
That service sounds bad for the fact that you have the option to pay $50 a year for online gaming. Why add a monthy service in addition to a yearly service subscription. That wouldn't help them at all. People are buying the service and dowloading those movies at $6 because they don't have to spend the money on gas to head to the rental store and they view spending only 6 bucks vs a movie they may only watch 2 times after purchasing it regardless if it is HD or not. Compared to netflix you still get a more instance of watching the movie than you do with netflix too. You can download the movie/tvshow and have 14 days to watch.

I had to delete about 30% of my content just to download POTC:AWE.And even then, users like us had to run a Folding@Home style program to decipher the plot. (I read the summary of At World's End on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_of_the_Caribbean:_At_World's_End#Plot) and the movie is still too g******ed confusing. Looked great in HD, though.)

I wasn't able to catch the Lost premiere last night but as a pleasant surprise I saw that very same episode as soon as I fired up my Xbox this afternoon. I knew MSFT struck a deal with ABC but I had no idea that they would be uploading shows of the current season on the marketplace especially since it's yet to hit DVD or Blu.
And it looks like I'll be getting myself an Elite soon since it's kinda pointless to spend $180 on a 120GB HD. I can't drive myself to do it.
