Anyone know why HBOHD, channel 501 for DirecTv, isn't always 16:9 after today's upgrade to a 5LNB dish and a HR21 receiver and HR21-700 DVR? Sometimes it spans the entire screen (16:9), other times it's only occupying 4:3 of my screen. This NEVER happened before the upgrade. Everything I ever watched on HBOHD was 16:9. Both of my TVs are, of course, set to the correct viewing mode.

This occurrs on both of my TVs, a Hitachi rear projector and a Sony XBR tube. Between show HBO "ads" seem to always be 16:9, then it'll switch to 4:3 (but still looks sharp) when a show starts. The TVs claims the feeds are 16:9 hi-def, but it looks like the lame 4:3 ESPN-HD was showing when it first came out.

For other channels, some are always 16:9, others occupy the real estate of a 4:3.

Any ideas?

I'm 99% that the shows you're watching happen to be 4:3 shows, hence the 4:3 picture area.

Be specific on what shows you're watching in 4:3.

More important to note is the cropping of the OAR of shows/movies that actually do fill your 16:9 screen. I can't stand the movie HD channels that do this most of the time.

I'll post again later today, or tomorrow, after I learn about and tweak EVERY option. I "quickly" went through every option last night, but still had the same problem. In short, it seems as though most of the new (5LNB) D* channels are 4:3 "HD". I sure hope something isn't configured correctly.
