I currently have two Revel B15 subs. Has anyone compared the Sw12 to the Revel? If so, what is your opinion?

Thanks,
Ken

I have worked with both of those units many times. I would say their performance is very similar. I recommend both of those units. I would prefer the B15 a little more for its adjustability.

I started with the Revel B15a and went to the Aerial SW12. IMHO the Aerial outperforms the B15a and has a much nicer cabinet. The remote is nice, too. If you have Aerial speakers, the SW12's are a better match.

These subs are nowhere near $20K in price, even for two. You would have to go to 4.

I work (don't ask me to explain, just trying to stay within AVS rules) with both. They are both very good. I own the Aerials myself.

Who mentioned $20k?

I've heard both, but no "direct" comparison. I remember liking the B15s, but I prefer, and own, the Aerials.

We are posting in the plus $29K component forum. Its a forum for stuff over $20K MSRP. These are $5K subs for the masses. Not big boy stuff. Yea Right.

I get a free pass. I also have the 20T's, cc5, 2 pair of, SR3's. This should get me past the 20k mark before I through in my Meridian and Levinson gear.

:)

Everbody here gets a free pass. That's about the only thing in this highend sport that is free. :)

Mark, can I have a free pass to the Superbowl tomorrow? Its only a brief drive from my place (theater down under construction) to the game!!@@

And I've only got three SW-12s. I guess they don't qualify me for this forum, either.
But I can stack 'em or unstack 'em and my coming projector does. Thanks, Mark.

Steve, you have been around the audio block a few times. Can you compare the Revel and SW-12's? Do the SW12's have b*lls?

I haven't directly compared them. I've heard the Revel sub in a Revel system. And I've heard the Aeriel subs in my system. They are excellent performers. One might argue what's most important is proper sub placement.

The Aerial subs are great looking and certainly compliment my Aerial 9s (4) and Aerial CC5 well. And they go down below 20 Hz. And I've had three of them for years!!!!

Ken, remind us of your speakers and components, and your planned use for the sub(s), music? or just movies?

As a former SW12 owner (single unit, with LR5s and LR3s as friends), I would suggest investigating sub solutions from Seaton Sound before even thinking about plopping $5K down on an SW12...that's enough to buy 2 SubMersive subs. Technically, to qualify to post in this forum, you'd need to buy 10 SubMersvives. :)

P.S. I'm not knocking the SW12, which is a fine sub, but it simply cannot reach as far down as quasi-bespoke solutions like those from Mark Seaton (e.g., SubMersive and Terraform). I used to bottom out my SW12 quite a bit on certain soundtracks.

Steve, my components are:

Meridian 861
Meridian 800,
Two Mark Levinson 436 mononblock amps (for 20T)
Mark Levinson 331 dual monoraul amp. (both channels going to CC5)
Two Proceed HPA-2 amps (for the SW3's)
Pair of Aerial 20T
One CC5
Two pairs of SWs

I use the system for HT and 2 channel. It is skewed though more to HT.

with both channels to the CC5.

Nice indeed!!!!

Aerial subs will work very nice.

Though you may want to PM OB about his new monster subs. One of those would work very nice I"m sure too.

From a musical standpoint, after years of different placement, like corners, etc., for some time now my three Aerial subs have been to the sides of my
Aerial CC5, but in back a bit closer to the front wall, as that is a nice more flat response area - before that, I had them inside the front main speakers. That was nice but not as nice or flat. Before that, I had then in the corners.
That could lift my chair in some home theater stuff but as I get older the boom isn't as impressive as the musicality and cleaness of the bass.
