I'm looking into buying a 52" lcd and everyone keeps telling me that sharp aquos lc52p82u or the 52d64u are the best bang for my buck.
But have just come across a review that said theres a problem with banding..
Is this a problem thats comon with all lcds or just sharp..
Should I avoid the aquos??

yes this is a problem with some Sharp LCD's so you need to do your research to determine if the size and line you are looking at has significant banding issues. The big problem seems to be what seems to be a deliberate decision on Sharp's part to ignore "screen Uniformity" in their quality control. It's not that Tv's go bad after leaving the factory but that blotchy or striped screens are just ignored, leaving joe public to deal with it.
I has a 5262 and loved it except for horrible banding very similar to the infamous Master & Commander video. I took it back and because of the hassle decided not to get another.
Having said that, if my local stores were willing to break out and test a new Sharp with a grey screen for me before buying then I would consider another since some people do report getting good ones.

Just be very careful since so many people have gotten bad ones and Sharp just keep spitting them out like this.

Neighbor got the 52d64u and it's kind of complicated.
No banding when running a screen of various shades of gray.
Some banding on crappy sources, such as cable tv channels that aren't completely clear anyway, or crappy compressed video files fed through VGA. No banding on higher quality files fed through VGA.
