Just replaced a VP50 with a VP50pro and before I start recalibrating the system sometime over the next weeks, I just wanted to port over a few basic settings.

Am I right that the settings on the Pro are generelly MUCH more subtle ? For example a brightness/contrast setting of +2/+10 on the 50 seems to translate to +20/+50 on the 50pro. While the settings on the previous DVDO processors were often too rough, I have the feeling that they are TOO subtle on the Pro. Even with a testpattern I have a hard time to tell the difference between Brightness -5 and +5. I would also say that some of the settings (Brightness for example) have a limited range compared to before. Even with +100 I can't reach brightness levels that were easily accessable on the 50(non pro).

Basically I just want to confirm that other "upgraders" feel the same about it.

last I noticed the brightness control for example is doubled on the pro, this means that 100 now on the pro was 50 before on the vp50, so you have the same range just .5 steps adjustment for finer tuning, this may have been adjusted more but since I haven't touched a VP50 for a while I can't confirm for you, last I checked it was simply doubled, to match a +5 brightness you may need +25 or more, don't be affraid to go well into the range for the control, DVDO listened to folks and expanded these controls very much so, both in range and steps

alot of stuff has been changed between the two units(levels like mentioned above, detail/sharpness and gamma control somewhat different etc.), I suggest a complete ground up calibration after getting the pro

absolutely!

Just a short additional question on the new picture control presets which I can adjust under the output menu: if I put there Brightness +10 for example than this value is ADDED to the generell brightness setting under picture controls, right ?

E.g. Brightness in picture control is set to 20 and Brightness in the presets is set to +10 on preset1 and -10 on preset2 this would result in an overall Brightness 30 for preset1 and 10 for preset2, correct ??
