I have a PJ setup that we use for the majority of viewing but sometimes we want to do some TV viewing on our 40" Sony CRT.

Right now I am Switching the component cable on the AVR from the PJ to the TV when we want to watch the DVR.

The TV does not have any HDMI (does have DVI but an OPPO is connected to that) the next best that the DVR and TV has available is S-video.

Any way I do not want to get a switcher, I am just going to set my remote with some macros to switch the TV's inputs rather than the AVR's inputs.

Can the S-video pass 720 or 1080i vis the S-video? Its a very short run.

No. S-video can carry only 480i.

If I remember correctly, S-Video can only pass 480i. I'm more confused as to why you're looking to get 720p on a non-HDTV though, unless I'm reading this wrong.

The TV is HD,

I have decided to ditch the oppo and use an HDMI to DVI cable.

I will lose SD-DVD conversion to the TV but That's what I have the PJ for Right!!
