I've been deciding on my home entertainment for over 2 months now. And decided to go for the Pioneer Elite PRO-150FD. I haven't seen how well this plasma do on sd signals. But I did see it in action on hd :). Anyway should I still get a vp for it or the vp in the pio will be enough. I don't expect HD quality with SD signals. But some what close to it. So my question is do I still need a vp for this tv? And if so what's recommended. thanks...

The scaler in the 150fd is pretty good, but nowhere near as good as high quality scaler. There is a noticable upgrade in picture on my 150FD when I can get my VP50Pro to work correctly (so far this has been an issue).

The Pio Elite's really do display SD pretty well. They also have decent noise reduction controls. It might be good enough for you. It is for me, provided the source is halfway decent.

There's probably room for improving the scaling and processing, but the 150 is meant to have exceptional processing and I don't feel the designer had only high def in mind since most stuff is still on SD. I have not seen the processor w/150, but I simply do not imagine why the designer of perhaps the very best set on the market was not considering all aspects of the processing when developing the panel. Go panel to DVD and spare the seperate connect IMHO, though if you can do a trial, see if you can get a VP50 from somewhere that provides a return policy, get right down to the nitty gritty of it all by getting professionals over to help if necessary, and simply do a comparison to see if your eyes feel it is worth it. With all that extra change that would go into the VP50, you can start to consider a 9G or 10G set;):)
