Hey guys. Just picked up a ps3 today. Sold my xbox360 premium last night so all in all it cost me 100$ to go to the ps3.
I have a Samsung Plasma 5054 - wondering if there is anyone with this tv? Can someone help me with the Optimal settings on TV and PS3? I have it connected via HDMI as well.
Looks pretty good. Wondering if I can get it better.
Also because my tv is native 720p, should I have the pS3 set to output in 720p or 1080i? Which would be better in your opinions?
Thanks for the help folks

If you have an AVR, then sound should be on LPCM output. It sounds like you have connection straight to your HDTV, though, so bitstream. IIRC, there are issues with 720p on certain games, so I'd recommend 1080i output. Your TV will then do the downscale/deinterlacing.

I have a Samsung 720p LCD and I force my PS3 to 720p and turn on Full RGB HDMI and right under that is a feature I believe called Super White or something, both of those made a huge difference.

Recommendation: Take a few days off of work, buy CoD4, and experience the hawtness.

Fortunately, there's really not a lot to it on the PS3 end (there's a lot more adjustments to be made on the display end).
As far as video is concerned, your basics on the PS3 end are: resolution adjustments, RGB full or limited (if your display is compatible), and super white on or off (if your display is compatible).
There are some other minor adjustments, but those are the basics. Test em out, and see what looks good to you. If you don't notice any differences, then it probably doesn't matter anyway.
FWIW, for my "720p" display (768p actually, as most "720p" sets are) I force 1080i output. For material (like games) that doesn't output at 1080i, I have to manually re-enable 720p output.
excellent. Thanks for the responses guys. I will definately check it out when i get home. I really wish i got this system on Friday instead of yesterday..lol.

That seems like the the only benefit to this setup. I haven't really done any comparisons myself.

I will be getting a PS3 this week. I am curious about these settings. I have a Vizio 47" LCD and found somewhere else on the net that is is compatible with RGB full.
However, What is super white? how do I go about determining if i have it or not with my display?
I will be hooking up the PS3 thru my H/K receiver over HDMI...either 1080i or p...not sure yet.

I haven't really done any comparisons myself. The difference is only really noticeable with dark material on a bright/light background. At 720p, I get ghosting/haloing artifacts. At 1080i, they disappear. It's just how my TV's cheap scaler/deinterlacer works.
The difference is even more noticeable on my 360, where it doesn't take quite as extreme a color contrast to notice. At 720p on the 360, all edges look "ghosty." At 1080i, it looks substantially better.
