Definitely has the re-designed rear, this one will probably run very cool. But no SACD :(

I find it funny that Xbox360's have a special edition that is in black and Playstation3 has a special that is white. I guess they both think the grass is greener in the other ones color

You're right about that. Even taking out the SACD chip, it saves Sony a few bucks. Since Sony doesn't sell any new SACD titles any longer, I guess it didn't make financial sense to keep putting the feature in there.

I really think Sony's motivation is to move the PS3 to a more pay-for-content platform anyways. Downloading movies, games, etc to the hard drive for a fee.

That white color is ugly. I prefer my electronics components to be black or silver.

When that comes out I am selling my 60gb and getting a white. And a white ds3 to go with it.

Reading the acompanying owner's manual, it confirms that yes, lossless Dolby TrueHD 7.1 via HDMI is supported.

DTS-HD 7.1 is not.

Dolby TrueHD is nothing new to the PS3. IIRC, every version can decode Dolby TrueHD. They output it as PCM, however.

DTSHD-MA is the troublesome one, TrueHD plays fine (just not bitstreamed).

I kind of like it, but already have one and have no need for a second.

Not sure if I would like a white controller after a year or two of use, I think it would start to go beige in parts and basically look dirty.

That would explaing why SACD support disappeared from the 40GB models but I'm not so sure if it's true. Seems like the Cell should be able to handle that easily.

i think it looks better than the black and it won't show dust as easily. if i had the choice, i would get the white one.

Page 23 of the manual confirms no SACD (also points out the obvious exclusion of ps2 games but mentions will play ps1 discs <--- I never knew that). Can't see anything to pin down Dual Shock 3 :(

with that in mind, i guess black is a safe choice. and it goes well with most home theaters. white would stick out like a sore thumb. but i still think it looks good. :D

I think it looks nice, not as good as the black one but it still looks good. Then again I have an olive green 360 with a bronze DVD tray sitting here on my desk and I think it looks good.

It's just marketing. A new "white" model generates some amount of media and fan buzz (witness this thread), and draws eyeballs in stores.

Well, Nintendo has no trouble selling white coloured Wiis and the PSOne (the slim PS1) came in white instead of the earlier gray models. Nothing wrong with offering a white model. I certainly wouldn't stop offering black models if I were Sony though.

The silver is a little bit better but the black is still the winner in my eyes. Infact, the 20gig is still my favorite since it didn't have the chrome bar.

Honestly, how many versions of this generation systems do we need? Next we will get a gold XBOX 360 with a builtin HD DVD player and, just to throw us all for a nice little loop, Sony will give us a purple PS3 that is a dual format player. :D

However, I do agree with the comment about the 20gb. I think the reason I like the white is it's low "bling" factor more than the color itself. The whole gloss black and chrome thing has never appealed to me. In my mind components should be flat colors and draw as little attention as possible when off- lol! I might be asking for it but- I don't think most consoles are very good looking boxes anyway, the exceptions might be the slim ps2 and ( god help me here ) my purple game cube... What? It's cute! ;)

The white looks to shed the chrome and in theory the gloss white will show less finger prints than the black- plus it'll match my dreamcast! :D

Desktops used to all be white, but its pretty rare to find them in that color... probably because it fades to a nasty yellow
