The HR20 has only one HDMI output. I have two monitors which are both capable of HDMI in, and would like to connect both via HDMI (not conponent, S-video, etc.). I have tried using an active matrix and a passive splitter without any success. I was about to try a powered splitter and was told that the HR20 was designed to prevent end-users from splitting the HDMI signal. Has anyone been successful in splitting the signal, and if so, how?
Thanks for your help! Ken

The HR20 is not going to allow you to split the HDMI output because it can't handshake with two displays at once. Run component to the other set.

what is the HR20? I am using an HDMI splitter on both a DISH DVR and a HTPC with no issues...

I use an Audio Authority 1x4 HDMI splitter on the H20 with no problems whatsoever.

hey kenny g, if its really important to you, there are some really expensive hdmi splitters out there that might work with your setup.
as mjones alluded to, the hr20 probably does identify its display and possibly confirm hdcp compliancy (not sure about that). so you can imagine why a simple splitter (the equivalent of physically splitting each wire in two) could confuse your source.
however, more expensive (we're talking almost 300) hdmi splitters such as the Gefen EXT-HDMI-142-BLK have a more advanced process.
my understanding is that 1 output goes to the "primary" display, and the source sees that one, and the other output is mirrored to a "secondary" display, which gets whatever res and refresh etc that the primary gets, even if its specs are different. it seems like it would work because perhaps the gefen hides the second display in a way that the source never knows its there.
dc10's audio authority sounds like the same type of unit, perhaps that brand provides better value. i don't consider gefen to be great value...
but my uncle is using a gefen 4x2 switch/splitter with a comcast hd box, a standard dvd player, and an htpc as sources. it does work, although when you turn on the second display while the source is feeding through to the first, sometimes you get snow and must switch away from that source and come right back. its a rare situation for him, usually he has one display on at a time, and it doesnt happen every time, havent really nailed down the cause. its somewhat minor but i expect more from a box costing nearly half a grand.
anyway that was purchased almost two years ago, i expect they have improved hdmi compatibility and reliability. a quick email to tech support at gefen might yield more definitive answers. good luck.
I.m using a manual switch from monoprice. They sell powered and remote controlled also.

sorry i was too lazy to go find that yesterday...
joed offers a more cost effective solution, but either you must get off your lazy ass or you must add another remote to your likely extensive arsenal. unless you've gone universal... btw, the aeros remotes by universal remote are amazing. one button can fire off a macro that turns every device on AND picks your nose. a must have for people like myself who are often congested.
