Need BC? If not, don't get a 60GB. Get a 40GB, 80GB, or wait for the 120GB.

I personally purchased a 40GB version a few weeks ago, and I love it. It's super quiet and runs cool, unlike the older models.

I have a 60gb I got in August and the only way I can hear it is if I put my ear against the vent.

I have a 60gb as well. I never noticed the fan noise while playing video games. The other day though, I was watching Spiderman on Blu-ray, 3/4th of the way through the movie, I heard the fan kick on, dam that fan was loud.. It was louder the then my tv, and I had the volume on the tv up.. After about 5 mins, I blocked it out, and enjoyed the rest of the movie. I do enjoy the PS3 though, so some noise won't deter me to much, I will just have to live with..

I would just wait to see what sony's new sku is gonna be.

But, if you want a new 60gb, there was some at techdepot.com a few days ago. It says backorder now. You can try to order anyways if you want. If you have a kmart near you, some people have found some new 60gb there too.

If your coworker needs BC he/she should just get an 80gb. They're easy to find and they're 90% backwards compatible with PS2 games. If he/she doesn't need BC then they should get a 40gb as they run cooler and quieter. Though I will say the only time the fans kick in on my PS3 is when my dorm gets particularly stuffy (which it has a habit of doing with the heat that I can't turn off always trying to cook me) and even then the fan noise isn't that bad if my speakers are turned up to a normal volume the only time I hear it is during quiet scenes in movies and games and even then I pretty much block it out.
