I am considering either the Pioneer PDP-5080HD 50" Plasma or the Samsung HLT-6176S 61" DLP. I watch primary HD sources (DirectTV HR-21 DVR, Panasonic BD-10AK Blu-Ray, X-Box 360 HD-DVD). The room environment is fairly dark (converted a small bedroom to HT room). I sit about 10' away (12" if I mount a Plasma). I just had a Samsung 56" DLP calibrated and it looks great. However, I am struggling with size versus best quality picture. Your thoughts, suggestions, recommendations, etc. Thanks in advance. BTW, one these will replace my 65" Mistu 65411 RP CRT (lacks HDMI/DVI inputs).

I'm not sure how you could have any doubts comparing any DLP to a plasma. Pioneer is going to look far, far superior, especially at angles. Pioneer is also one of the best PDP brands.

Yes, I admit the picture quality of the Pioneer Kuro Plasmas are excellent. In the case of the Samsung DLPs, once calibrated they provide a very good picture (http://ultimateavmag.com/rearprojectiontvs/507sam5688/).

I can be happy with either set, but with a $500 and 11" size difference,IMHO the Samsung 1080p DLP is a strong contender vs the Pioneer Kuro 5080HD.

The 5080 will look small

92" Vutec Silverstar with Panasonic AE200U. Killer combo and should be about the same price as the KURO.

92" screen from 10' view is killer.

Well, after visting all the local and national electronic stores in my area, hours on the web and conversations with the wife. I decided this morning to move my calibrated Samsung 56" DLP to our cozy HT room. I will purchase the Toshiba REGZA 52HL167 52" 1080p LCD HDTV (great professional & owner reviews....) at Costco and place it in the bedroom. Our bedroom has large Bay windows, but light control is decent with our blinds. In the end, it just made sense to place a LCD in the bedroom and live with the 56" Sceen size in our small HT room.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback and suggestions!
