View Full Version : PS3 changing colors?
metal83 02-06-08, 11:49 AM i am just wondering if it is normal for the menu to change colors on its own, i got this 40g ps3 yesterday and the menu was blue, today its yellow. whats up with that?.......and one more question, i have a 52 inch hdtv, should i use pan and scan or letterbox?
bcrossan7 02-06-08, 11:50 AM Yes this is normal. Changes color during the day and black at night. I think the color has to do with day or month... check wiki for exact explanation

also the menu froze on me just now, only had this thing for a day, should i be worried, or does this happen now and again.
Gradthrawn 02-06-08, 12:01 PM Color changes based on time of day (bright to dark) and the month. Similar to the PSP, except that while the PSP would do an abrupt color change at the start of each month, the PS3 transitions in the next months colors over time. If you don't like that, you can manually change the background or create your own theme (http://http://www.us.playstation.com/Content/PS3NetworkPlatform/Updates/img/ps3_themes/PS3_Custom_Theme_v101-E.zip).

I have a launch system and never once has it froze.

Worried now, no.
Worried if it is still doing it 6 months from now, yes.
In essence, it is a computer and will hang on a rare occassion, especially if it has been on without a reboot for a long period of time going and coming from applications like Folding@Home and playing movies and games.
sumavguy 02-06-08, 02:24 PM 2 days ago was the first time I had mine freeze... It was left in all all day and night and the next morning I tried to turn it off through the controller and no luck. I did show that the controller was connected as well. I've had my 60gb since June.
pengilly 02-06-08, 02:53 PM Ive had a 20 and a 60 since launch......freeze free.
knock on wood
SurfingMatt27 02-06-08, 02:56 PM freezing is normal every once in a while, it happens in all consoles.
Sometimes it's just a firmware bug.

Maybe in your experience. My launch 60GB hasn't frozen on me yet.
I wouldn't consider freezing "normal", after all, PS3 doesn't run Windows...:D
like.no.other. 02-06-08, 05:05 PM .....and one more question, i have a 52 inch hdtv, should i use pan and scan or letterbox?
Use letterbox to preserve aspect ratio.

FYI A better subject would have been "is it normal for my background to change colors".

Correct! Here is the WIKI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XrossMediaBar) link!
My PS3 has never froze on the main menu but has once during assasains creed. But with 100+ hrs gaming and 20+ movies not to bad
