Just had to share my excitement. February 13, one week from today, should be a very fun day and, I hope, a fairly interesting comparison of 3 mid-level televisions of varying technologies:
Room #1 - Living room
Mitsubishi WD-73734 (rear projection 1080p 73" - chosen because viewing distance is 16' and budget wouldn't cover 60+" LCD/Plasma)
Yamaha 661 receiver
Paradigm fronts, center and sub (keeping existing Paradigm rears)
Still figuring out what to do about Blu-ray/upconverting DVD player
BDI Avion 8529 furniture
Room #2 - Sitting room
Pioneer Kuro 5080HD (50" 720p plasma - chosen because of CableCard slot and excellent reputation), fireplace mounted w/ Sanus tilting mount, clean install with CableCard, no wires, no external boxes
Room #3 - Office
Sony KDL-40S3000 (40" 720p LCD - chosen because of size, price and the fact that this will be used the least), wall mounted w/Sanus tilting mount
While none of the purchases are the elite, top of the line systems, I think that they represent a good balance between cost and quality. I am looking forward to seeing how they integrate into the house and how these varying sizes and technologies compare with each other. I think that my biggest problem is going to be a desire to keep running into a different room to see how a similar feed (Comcast HD) looks on each display. I especially hope that the 73" RPTV can compete with the plasma and LCD. The RPTV will be used the most and is the most expensive, so I sure hope that while watching it I'm not yearning to go see the plasma instead, even though it won't have a DVD, DVR, separate speakers or even comfortable seating.
Anyway, thanks to AVS for tons of great info. I'll keep you updated on how this all comes together if you are interested.
