Since i'm planning to do my theater myself, I've been buying power tools. Recently I bought a Skil model 3800 miter saw, but haven't open it. Before I do is anyone familiar with this product if so, how is it?

W00lly 02-06-08, 10:30 PM I have never used a Skil miter saw but I think there all pretty much the same. It looks like it would do the job. I myself have a 12" dewalt but some times I wish I had a sliding miter saw with a laser on it pmeyer 02-06-08, 10:42 PM Depends on what you want to do. If you are just planning on using it for crown moulding, baseboards, and 2x4's, it looks like it will do the job just fine. I went with a 10" sliding compound miter saw (the whole top assembly slides forward/back so it can cut wider stock) with a laser 'guide'. The laser guide is handy, but not essential. The sliding feature is only needed if you want to cut wider stock (2x8, 2x10, etc.) madehumble 02-06-08, 10:59 PM It has a laser guide. But another question would be I did see a Kobalt sliding 10" miter saw at lowe's is anyone familiar with that one? Because I really wanted a sliding one, but accuracy is more important and from reading reviews online the Skil one is surely that. carboranadum 02-06-08, 11:26 PM I have a Craftsman 10" miter saw with laser guide. I really wish that I would have purchased a 12" sliding miter saw. When I was framing the basement rear wall, I ended up adding a door and a window. The back wall was framed with 2x10's. Cutting them required cutting the first part, flipping the board, lining it up and cutting the rest. A slider really would have been nice... |
