I have had a large quantity of video files in various formats....all of which worked fine under Tiger with perian and A52 installed. These files worked in QT, FrontRow, and MediaCentral.

Since upgrading to leopard... I am finding that many files are not working. I thought it was due to perian...and then the new update came out and its still not working. after closer look...it gets very wierd:

all the files play fine in mediacentral
some files work in QT, while others lost sound.
some files work fine in FrontRow, while others lost sound, and in some cases lost video but sound works.

In some cases....the file that does not work in FrontRow will work in QT.

I dont understand....some of these files are mov, avi, and mpg.

is there other sound codecs i can try installing to see if that helps?
anyone else with this problem?

I highly recommend getting MediaInfo Mac (http://massanti.com/mediainfo/). Drop a file on it and it will tell you which codecs it needs and even give the URL where you can download them.

ok...i grabbed that app...and it says this:

for one of the files that plays no audio in QT and FrontRow:
audio codec: MPEG-1/2 L3 (.mp3)
video codec: Xvid (XVID)

Any ideas why sound wont work in either FrontRow or QT?

for one of the files that plays audio (but no video) in FrontRow, however both work in QT:
audio codec: MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2 (MPA1L2
video codec: MPEG-1 Video (MPEG-1V)

any ideas why it will work in QT and not in FrontRow?

Did you install version 1.1 of Perian?

yes...i tried perian 1.1 and 1.0 with no luck.
i also tried divx and xvid codecs....and a52.

since these files worked in tiger for about 1 year now....its wierd that they just dont work in leopard like this.
and if the file works in QT.,...why wouldnt it work in FrontRow which uses QT for playback....so annoying.
