View Full Version : Improving STB performance (functionally)

I've got the Motorola HD box (non-DVR, probably about 3-4 years old).

Of course, since I don't have the Super Preferred Digital Platinum Tier, there are many channels which I do not receive (black screen, "You are not subscribed...").

Is anyone satisfied with the performance of their HD STB? I’ve got some rants about mine (I’m at work so I don’t know the exact model, but it’s the Motorola HD STB, a few years old, no DVR, no nothing).

1. I find the box is so unresponsive to inputs (for example, punching in numbers to change channels, you have to be very slow and deliberate about it, or when changing channels, the "blank" time in between) it wastes a lot of time. If you press buttons too fast, it might not register some presses, for example if I want to go to Channel 231, the box slowly picks up “…2…1…” and sends me to channel 21.

2. Can I program the STB to delete/skip over channels I do not want to watch or do not receive? Otherwise I’m just flipping through 20 or 30 un-used channels, and you know how long it takes just to change channels already… You’d think that these boxes would be able to customize to each customer’s preferences.

Will a new STB (more modern model) perform any better/faster? Or is Comcast still issuing the same old box that I have? I’ll go home at lunchtime and check to see which model it is.
