View Full Version : Riser questions - Uboats? Bass Absorber?

I'm still putting up drywall but I'm thinking ahead about the riser.

The U-boats that I have seen come in a pack of 100 (I've found packs of 50 but for the exact same price as the 100 pack!) but I don't think I would need that many.

Is it necessary to isolate the riser? My theater is in the basement and is being built on top of a DriCore floor. I might mount some bass shakers in the couch that will go on the riser but I'm not sure.

I was also thinking about trying to use the riser as a bass absorber but I haven't figured that out yet. It seems a shame to waste all this dead space. My riser will be approx 12ft x 10ft.

Anyone have any extra U-boats to sell?

Thanks. Bud

Check with Bryan at Sensible Sound Solutions (http://www.sensiblesoundsolutions.com)

There is also a build of an auralax riser on Audioholics that would be worth checking out.

Did you ever build a riser? If so how many did you use for a riser that big.

Is this in a basement? If so, they won't do anything for you.

Why not? Because the concrete floor won't transmit any vibrations that the riser needs to be isolated from?

exactly.

Wow... this thread came back from the dead... I had forgotten all about it and even received a PM from Ted today because the message was revived!

I ended up not using the uboats... in fact, I did purchase them but then I sold them to another forum member after getting some feedback from another, well respected forum member. I didn't put anything under my riser (10' x 9') and yes it's in the basement.
