I have been doing a lot of reading about the different methods of installing GOM or other similar fabrics on walls using the firring strip method, frames and even the track method.

I am not planning on doing the entire room in GOM. The front screen wall will be done completely and the rest of the room will be treated with properly placed panels.

My sticking point is how to get the screen wall to look uniform without seeing staples, molding etc. Again, I have read numerous threads on this but still feel I am missing something.

I have a couple of questions as I have not been able to get a complete handle on it yet.

1) The fabricmate route looks like the least complicated. Are there any success or horror stories with using this. Is there another track alternative (that is DIY) to fabricmate.

2) On my design, I am using in wall speakers and wanted some suggestions on how to cover the speakers with the GOM and keeping the uniform look. For example, should I use firring strips around the speaker, staple Gom to it and then cover it with the speaker grill?

I have other questions, but I think this will provide a good starting point.

Thanks

Don't know if you saw my thread on screen wall. Basically divide the wall into four sections. Above and below the screen, left and right. Make 4 rigid frames, wrap With GOM and staple on side edges. Position in place and you really don't even see the seams between panel at normal lighting levels. All staples are hidden.

I built mine out off the wall but it could be flat on a wall just as easy.

I actually have read your thread and like your theater very much. I guess I believed since you have the false screen wall that somehow my situation was different but I think that will work.

Should I put linacoustic behind the screen without the GOM or nothing at all. I don't have an ATS.

I would do linacoustic behind the screen, no need for GOM.
All though I have no specific data or reference I seem to remember that even though the screen reflects a good portion of the sound, what does make it through will be partially absorbed by the insulation.

My screen wall, and rear wall for that matter, were done pretty much how Big explained. When you use a dark color, you can't even tell where the frames come together unless you shine light directly onto it causing a shadow,,, as in my rear wall pic.

My screen wall is 7 different panels,,, rear wall is 6 panels.

The other technique is blind seams. You still do the screen wall in four parts, Top, left side, right side and bottom. Then on the bottom I covered a piece of base molding with GOM.
