I'd wait. I installed it (and the Quicktime 7.41 update) and after that none of my H.264 encoded video (from Handbrake) worked anymore. AC3 decoding was fine, but no video. I downgraded back to Perian 1.0 and everything works again.

Agreed. Also, all those changes have not been implemented it seems.

I tried the update, and after a reboot, I had a screen full of Perian update messages (like a stack of cards--I could pull them off and dismiss them). I had to dismiss about 25 of them before they finally disappeared. All is not well in Perian update land.

I got that as well on one machine but not another.

When I updated to 1.1 a couple things happened...

1. Nothing worked until I rebooted.
2. It wiped out my plist settings that enabled Dolby Digital via QT/Front Row.
3. MKV playback was horrendous. Files that were smooth before were now too choppy to play.

This was just my experience and your may vary. Just thought I'd give people a heads up.

Strange. I didn't have any install problems. installed on a Macbook, MacMini and iMac. MKV's play nicer, and even stream subs while loading, very nice.

There is a bug with H.264 avi's. ( or if like me, ripped from handbrake as .avi to keep the AC3 - and saved to .mov's added to iTunes. )

Perian teams knows about it. - here is the response from the forums -

"Oh, i see, if it doesn't have an SPS in the header it can be counted as interlaced... playing in the betas relied on uninitialized memory/QT bugs, I guess.

This only affects h264 avi; any other format will work. (plus mp4 is actually editable and work on hardware players)"

I had no trouble updating to Perian 1.1 on a mac mini and a mac pro.

I also experienced the non-smooth playback issue (where there was no issue before)
I did some test encodes using handbrake and my usual settings, and also tried turning b-frames off.

The encodes without b-frames played smooth as silk. The encodes with b-frames (max=6 I think) played with judder/stutter whatever.

I then replaced Perian 1.1 with 1.0, and the problems went away.

Hopefully this'll get cleared up.

I'm going to post this on the Perian forum too.

I woke up this morning to the sound of MacBook fan whirring away full blast, never a good sign. Opened up Activity Monitor, and 24 Perian threads were running, eating up all the cpu cycles. No apps were running. I had watched some .zvi mpeg-4 quicktime movies the night before.

All is really broken in Perian 1.1 land.
