I have a couple of questions about the DSM520, hopefully someone can answer them for me. Just got it in today and I think it is awesome. Works beautifully but then I'm just using it for video over a wired connection. I am using TVersity and everything setup in about 15 minutes. It went so smooth I thought I was on a Mac.
How big of a hard drive can I attach to the USB port? I would love to put a 1TB drive on it. Can I copy files to the drive over the network while it is attached to the 520?
Is there a way to play DVD rips (the multiple .vob files) without converting to a single file or other such things? I would like to be able to rip my DVD, store the vobs on my external drive and play the whole movie from there with no other steps.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have READ that it will not read more than a flash drive. I had a DSM-520 at one point and returned it...never did try a large drive in the USB port so I cannot confirm this.

user att1234 on this thread above post is a wealth of knowledge
because he works for the company that makes the DSM520 for D-Link.

If you hit the play on the directory above the vob's it will play them one after the next. Although for some strange reason I have had it play them out of order on some directories...
Use the advanced search and make sure you check "Show Results as Posts" that the best way to find an answer, then you find the individual answer rather than the whole thread. (Especially since this thread has almost 1500 posts ;) )

Yes, I looked through these (can't post URLs yet), did not find an answer to the size of the HD one. att1234 mentions multiple partitions in the 1.06 upgrade but not how large of a drive can be attached. I tried hooking up a 80GB FAT32 portable drive but it wasn't recognized, maybe it needs to be a powered drive?

Thanks for this, I will try it out when I get home.

i have a 2 TB network drive playing all my media via a wired network on the 520. works very well. but your HD needs to be UpnP ready (ie have UPNP server built in). otherwise you have to use your computer to play from the HD. you can also attached a USB drive directly to 520. powered or usb powered should not matter.

HI
I recently bought the dsm 520 media lounge.
I'm trying to play some avi movies with it stored on my 500 gig HD. I'm plugging the hard drive irectly to the media player.
It's working pretty good so far, only thing is i'm not sure how to store my
movies in alphabetical order, there kind of in order but it seems the system
is using another way to setup the list. Can't figure out how to arange my list? It seems like there's only one speed to fastforward and rewind the movies.
Any help would really be appreciated!!!
