I have a Samsung HP-T5054 plasma 720P(it is set on 1080i at the moment). The main problem I have is watching blu ray movies. In the main menu of the PS3 the black levels are great but when I play a blu ray it isn't. When the blu ray movie is being loaded you can see grain on the black which is very annoying. The ps3 is hooked up on HDMI. It only looks ugly in a blu ray movie. Is this a calibration issue?

The PS3 is probably using PC levels for its menus and video levels for the blu-ray output. You most likely are going to be stuck running your brightness control up and down to compensate for the changes in levels unless the PS3 can be set to output everything at one level or the display can be switched between PC and video levels. I don't have either component so can't tell you exactly what to look for or do. Time to get out those manuals, I guess.

Whats the HDMI wire that your using.
Sometimes, its the quality of the wire that affects the picture.

In that case, it would probably impact the PS3 menus and BD playback to an equal degree.:(

Check sharpness. I had mine too low as I thought scaling artifacts were ringing.

RGB set to Full?

my RGB is set to full. I did find out what was the problem the HDMI RGB was set to automatic. In the mode you choose RGB or YCrCb. I chose YCrCb and still got the same fuzziness. I chose RGB and the fuzziness went away. What is the reason. Do I have the wrong setting for full HD?

The problem is that RGB Full is sending out a signal in the 0-255 colorspace, and YCbCr or RGB Limited send out a signal in the 16-235 colorspace that your TV likely expects.

RGB Full is not the setting you want, unless you calibrate your TV for it. What's happening with RGB Full, is that any signal below 16 is being interpreted as black by your TV. Because of that, dark greys (the grain) in the black screen are being interpreted as black also, so the grain is completely eliminated. However, you're going to be missing a lot of shadow detail in your picture.

Either calibrate your display to RGB Full, or preferably, set everything to Limited and calibrate it then.

The grain on the Blu-Ray is simply a defect of the source material itself. By hiding the defects in the source, you're cutting detail from the picture.

the problem i have is that when the RGB is set to limited to quality does not look the greatest. It bothers me a lot. Is it because I have 1080i?

1080i should have nothing to do with that. It's probably because you need to adjust contrast and brightness when going from the PS3 menus to showing BDs and DVDs but aren't doing it.

I will try the DVE disk and set RGB to limited and calibrate it with that and I'll let you guys know how it goes.

You need to make sure the BD settings are set right

play a BR and go to the "AV SETTINGS", right there you can check the display ON THE FLY as the movie plays(if you want pause it).
