fletch999 02-08-08, 09:38 AM The best at what?
phatnogin5877 02-08-08, 09:45 AM I think the term "best" is subjective. Granted its far better than anything I will ever own. But with all of those tube amps it is probably very hot in there. I would also be very distracted by the light they give off.
Curt Palme 02-08-08, 10:17 AM To each their own, but partly because I don't have the big bucks and partly because it's more of a challenge, I always like striving for excellence with a low a budget as possible.
When friends see my own HT, most of them will say that it's the best picture that they have seen (especially in the month that I had the CRT stack running). When I tell them my actual cost into my HT, cobbled together with bargains found on eBay and trade in stuff from my audio installation days, they usually had figured I'd spent way more.
I know that's probably not the typical train of thought in the >$20K forum, but hey, as I said, to each their own.
mhafner 02-08-08, 10:25 AM I wouldn't mind listening to some surround music in there, but watching a movie? No thanks.
Robby-P 02-08-08, 10:26 AM notice nothing seems to be hooked up??
Alimentall 02-08-08, 10:42 AM It looks like it was thrown together for a photo op. Even so, it's a stupid system in both cost and setup. Pretty sure OB's would pound it into submission for 5% of the cost. Can't believe I was able to say that in a sentence, I mean, OB's system being 5% the cost of anything.
notice nothing seems to be hooked up??
I believe that they moved stuff around so that it could all be captured in the photos. The amps probably sit behind the speakers, etc.....
It was hilarious listening to all the nay-sayers who commented on that page.

That room is quite far from "the best" in nearly every category a proper home theater should be judged.

Sure, but what hasn't been?
Bhagi Katbamna 02-08-08, 12:49 PM What matters is picture, sound, and the comfort of the seats. I bet that theater is great to watch movies in.
Throwing money at a problem doesn't automatically guarantee the best solution...

Alimentall 02-08-08, 01:00 PM The funny thing is that after reading some of Klipnis' site, he seems like Peter (Cineramax) on both steroids and LSD. But I'd rather have Peter do my system that this guy, Peter may be eccentric, but Klipnis seems to be actually crazy.

No, but it guarantees that the press will give you attention and that's enough to create a business amongst people who think that money does guarantee the best solution. Works in politics........

Try putting together a home theater without money and see how far that gets ya.
Alimentall 02-08-08, 01:47 PM It wouldn't take any money to do a better system setup. There's a big difference between spending money on home theater and throwing money at a home theater. it may be hard to beat a 4k Sony projector, but the waste of money on audio was just silly. But then, the guy's whole website is silly. Check out 'Cinema Gamma' where he puts a 16x9 projection system in the kitchen so you can watch the Food Channel. On the other hand, it looks to be crazy theater by crazy Hollywood people, for crazy Hollywood people. He's probably got people lining up. i expect we'll see him on Oprah any day now. you could build a better theater system for <$50K. And you could set up any home theater system better for free.

You'll never have a chance in politics with that kind of crazy thinking!!
joeycalda 02-08-08, 02:40 PM I'm pretty disappointed at how members are attacking this theater room. Awesome full range speakers, loads and loads of amplification, extra large screen, 18 subwoofers and a very high end projector.
disagree with price is okay, but don't dis the performance unless you've heard it and seen it for yourself!!
The room *possibly* sounds phenomenal but it is NOT a high performance screening room. Too much ambient light, too many reflections, too much going on in the room to distract from the screen and so on... One doesn't need to experience the room to know this...

JBLsound4645 02-08-08, 03:07 PM LOL Empire Leicester square spent I believe it was £5million back around 1989 for the ultimate THX rush. And this person here looks like he and she was ripped off blind. It’s tasteless in design http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon13.gif and looks nothing like a half decent home cinema.
Basically it’s just rich worthless snobs home, who doesn’t no Jack about what cinema is.

I don’t what to set in that room with all that clutter of untidiness. What didn’t he have enough to buy professional racks and dbx4800 loudspeaker management crossover systems?
Not even a duel 35/70mm projector not even a THX 3417 crossover system of f, of the Ebay not even a Dolby CP-650 or 200 for that professional neat untouchable look, not even a single row of rocker chairs like they have in the cinema.
No THX baffle wall, I bet it’s all a fake made in someone’s poor backyard photographic studio.

That’s all really been done here in the United Kingdom; with the Empire Leicester square, this joker is out of his league. Okay let’s see if he can top the Empire then shall we? Because he already burnt $6 worthless million US dollars of it, http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon13.gif Empire refit back in 1989 was £5 good worthwhile pounds spent with taste and class.:p:p:p:p:phttp://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon14.gif

The last major refit was back around summertime 2006, and it’s now labelled the most powerful JBL THX screen in the whole of Europe with 56KW!
Andrikos 02-08-08, 03:37 PM pfft!
I could DIY that for under a $1 Million! ;)
SimpleTheater 02-08-08, 03:39 PM Maybe it's just me, but I'd be happier with a $1 million dollar system, and then use the other $5 million to have some Playboy playmates over every weekend to watch movies with me for the rest of my life.

ROTFLMAO
I’m a poor person with a slim budget and at least I can draw, this person just stuck all that fine gear and just cluttered it up. I bet it’s got horrible early reflections of the all the audio gear laying around on the floor. And I would be surprised if all those amplifiers are humming due to the size of transformers, and I don’t mean Ironside.:D

The RT60 is probably over a second. For that kind of money he can't even sit more than 3 people. What kind of life does he have if he can blow $6million and not even share it with some friends/family. Not only can money NOT buy happiness, it appears that it doesn't even buy a quality HT.

A hermit is the neatest I can come up with.
I’m moved into new home and I’ve only just started to fit the surrounds to the walls. I’ve got lots of wonderful and affordable ideas that I plan to use over the next course of the year.
Maximum seating size is sadly two, :( three is pushing it! I plan to use 19” professional racks to keep audio equipment, neat and tidy and if at all possible kept in a separate room to isolate humming sound from the audio electronics, because all amplifiers have a mild humming sound in quite room space.

Wow that was worthless link with some Star Wars music playing, where’s the pictures action, speaks louder than words.:p
No don’t bother, I’ll just keep drinking Robinson’s taking cold baths and I’m off to the Empire again soon, because Empire is the only place that leaves one speechless at the end.:p:p:p:p:p

A couple of things - I don't want to get too off topic.
1) Considering he put $6 million and can fit 3 people, I'm certain your price to person ration will be better than $2 million : 1
2) For my HT, I built my own bass traps out of high density Knaupf fiberglass - then framed them in wood. Cost was only about $150 for all materials - then I stuck the equipment behind them and use an RF Universal MX850 remote to control everything. Family/Friends never see a piece of electronics in the room, except the projector.

DIY good one mate,:) when I get around to it, soon, a plan to buy some affordable covering materials, you know fabric, as some covering materials can be quite costly per metre or how ever it’s measured in the US.
Rock wool will be placed underneath, starting from half way around the room, right around to the back of the room, now I only need a thin layer of (rock wool), it’s the fabric that will cost more than the rock wool and I’m on a tight budget.
Also I’ve seen some great DIY bass traps and there piss easy to build, talk about Blue Peter.:D
