Anyone figure out a way to use the panel integrated IR receiver in the Pioneer 4350 / 5050 / 920 / 1120 / 930HD 1130 HD featuring remote media receivers?

My components are mounted 50' away from the display in a media closet. I have a Harmony 890 that works “OK” for me, but the family hates it as it gets out of sync once in awhile. (Almost 100% of the time for the less technically forgiving members of the family) So they usually end up using the individual device remotes across an old Radio Shack IR remote extender system (you know the little pyramids). This worked fine, but one of the Radio shack units finally blew up after 12 years of use! Went to BB to try and find a replacement and nada. They show a Recoton IR range extender and two of their local stores showed stock on hand, but neither was able to locate it! Anyways, I figured, this must be a sign. Time to see if I can hack a way to use the IR receiver integrated into the display panel. The back of the Media Receiver has G-link IR outputs, but my understanding that these are only available to the Media receiver for use during automated recording functions via the built in TV-Guide system, which we do no not use. (a simple test confirms no throughput)

So…….. My question is, has anybody developed or heard of an elegant work around to enable the built in IR to be expanded to drive IR emitters in the remote component room?
I am comfortable opening up the Media receiver and soldering etc.

It’s baffling that the OEM’s don’t provide this right out of the box. It’s all there.

Anyways, would love to hear what worked for you.

Tia!

AVS is such a great resource, I never had to ask a question before and have never been able to beat another member to answering a question!
