I have a scheduled repair for my 58PE75U today. They are going to replace both the power supply and D-Board. If the repair doesn't solve my issues (floating blacks), here are my options:
Replace the set with the exact same model and hope for the best
Get a 50" 1080p Panasonic and pocket $200
Get a 50" 768P Panasonic and pocket $800
Get 52" Sony LCD 120hz and pay an extra $600
All of these sets are from Costco and I'm not sure of the model numbers.
What do you think?

I think that's really something you'll have to answer yourself but you seem to be pretty fussy about picture quality, which you should be, so maybe the 1080P might be the way to go but with Costco's great return policy maybe you should give the 50" 768P a shot because if your unhappy with it you can always return it & get the 50" 1080P.
Watched the Super bowl on my neighbor's 50" PZ700 set & I thought the picture quality was excellent & before the game the kids were playing a game on the Playstation for a few hours straight & I din't see any IR at all & I would say the set only had about 40 or 50 hrs. on it & he doesn't plan on doing any break in & etc he told me he is just going to use it as if it was a new CRT set & so far so good.

You don't think the Sony would be a viable option? I know most people hate the 120hz feature, but the novelty of it is cool. I also worry about contrast issues with an LCD because I know earlier models had a dynamic iris.
GOD! Why can't I find the perfect tv!!! The funny thing is that I hate most TV and get bored by most movies. I have over 400 dvd's and I can't tell you the last time I sat down to watch a movie all the way through. The joys of having an 11 month old and a job that requires travel.

If you currently have a 58" I think you'll regret going back to a 50" set even if it is 1080p. If you are within the Costco return period then I'd take it back for a refund. OTOH - if you are only dealing with Panasonic at this point then you can probably also negotiate a full refund if they are unable to repair the set. Alternatively, if they are unable to effect a repair then Panasonic will replace the set with a like model at no cost to you or you can ask to do an upgrade for the price differential - although you may be able to get the same set for less in the retail market.

oh boy... yer way too much into the taglines.. 120hz..1080p.
going from a 58 720p set to a 50in 1080p set makes no sense. esp at 11-12 ft.
Get a panny or pio 720p set in 50in and be done with it. Otherwise if you like the 58in size stick with what you got.
If you pay more for a 52in lcd.... well just don't do it.

Too into tag lines? I listed the TV's specs. It's not like I used the term Full HD! LOL
