Hey Guys

I have just got a new server with 10TB of storage, i need to start ripping but i need some advice

Do i go with ISO or VIDEO_TS? VLC supports both and ISO will help keep things tidy as it kinda zips them into one file (without compression of course)

Does it matter which i use? Will quality be an issue?

I watched Die Hard last night from an ISO from my old server, and there were 1 or 2 blocky frames, i rechecked and it was the file, not the network that created it.

Do files degrade over time as im sure this blip was not there when i first streamed it a few years ago

Please advise

Thanks

Doesn't make any difference.
I keep mine as iso to keep things tidy :)

i think its just a matter of preference, i like to leave mine in native vob form, throw the coverart in there, name it folder.jpg so in thumbnail view in windows you can see it.

Digital file don't degrade like tape.
But it is possible to corrupt a file when moving it.

True, not like tape but digital data does degrade. Hard drives can be affected by external influences; mag fields, photons etc. Optical data often degrades because of the coatings.

Many monasteries haven't moved beyond paper as digital is yet to prove its lifetime over paper.
