View Full Version : Vp30 yellow light of death?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else had this issue with their VP30 and, if so, knew how to fix it...?

My VP30 is no longer working. The LED is a solid yellow light. The LCD screen is solid blue and appears to flicker slightly.

Buttons are unresponsive, and power cycling just gets me back to the yellow LED state, nothing appears on the screen at any time.

Is this one of the infamous power supply issues? Or does it sound like the unit kicked the bucket?

Thanks for the help!

Have you tried a hard reset? Unplug the power from the back of the VP30, press the menu and exit buttons on the front panel, and then plug the power back in.

Hi Dale,

I did the hard reset, I also took the top off and presed the reset button inside the unit. I also removed the ABT 102 board incase that was malfunctioning. Unit still behaved the same way.

Probed the power brick with a volt meter and it's outputting 6.07 V steady.

Nothing on the board appears to have been obviously burned out and there are no funny smells.

I'm working on my next generation of home theater control software and was planning on using this scaler to represent the DVDO product line (I think if I can control this one, I can control the rest).

Not sure what's wrong with it at this point... hope the little guy didn't die!

Stan,

How much did DVDO want for the new power supply? The same thing happened to me. Someone said that DVDO wanted $50 plus shipping for a new power adapter! That seems a bit steep for a 6v 5amp power supply that lasts a year and a half.

Thanks.

Anchor Bay was out when I tried to order one a couple of weeks ago. There are not many 6V power supplies on the market that are rated over 1 amp. I ended up buying a variable voltage 5 amp supply for $39 from Hong Kong. Shipping cost me an additional $17. Everything once again works fine.

Hi Josh,

I think there may be a defect or something with the power supplies. I just lost my second one. It's been about 6 months since getting the first one replaced.

My VP is powering up, showing text on the LCD screen, powering down, then repeating this sequence.
