I am looking at using a Middle Atlantic WR Series Rack for the A/V equipment in my house and wanted to if there were any basic accessories besides what comes with the rack that I would need?

This is the rack
http://www.middleatlantic.com/enclosure/roll/wr.htm

I am planning on putting the following in it
Denon A/V AVR-2308CI
Denon DVD DVD 1940CI
Monster Surge HTS2600
Nuvo Grand Concerto Distributed Audio
Dish Network VIP722 DVR
Dish Network Reciever
SMC Router

Anything else besides some rack shelves w/ faceplates, blank filler panels, & a door that I might need for such a setup ?

Rack screws, and washers. (most of the time they come together in the same pack)

Would I need any power accessories, cable management or fans for this type of setup?

Thanks for the response SRR

Lacing bars --- They come in real handy to supporting the cables at the rear of your equipment. And with the fragile HDMI connections it provides a great place to secure the HDMI connection.

Great thread. I'm about ready to order a MA rack myself also. Would have probably missed on those lacing bars.

Bluelude1 I hope you don't feel that these questions foul your thread, but asking where might I buy this it seems a natural progession from what I should buy...

I didn't see that any of the forum supporters carried MA products. If that is incorrect, please correct me.

Can some folks provide some recommendations on where they bought their MA racks from?

I bought my rack and all accessories at www.performanceaudio.com

Their website is a little tough to navigate (there so much stuff™). However, I never had any trouble with them. Great place.

Unless all of those components are rack ear mounted you will need shelves face plates and blanks.

Maybe a silly question but is anyone using the custom faceplates (and blanks) in conjunction with a rack door? (Or why hide those nice custom faceplates with a rack door?)

I'm leaning towards the AXS System for Steel Racks model ERK-4425AXS. It is not clear from pics on the site what sort of lacing bars I can use with the custom shelving (RSH shelving)...

I have a door in front of my rack. I did not want to see all the status lights on the equipment during a movie.

Plus, if its in the room, the door will help with the heat. LonnyE, some of us use the black background for AVS, hence your change in text color makes it difficult to read without highlight the post.

I have a preference for the lighter skin of the forum

Sorry about that. I had copied in some text which must have messed up the default pallettes. I seem unable to fix it at this point.

Both good points for consideration wrt rack door.

This rack would be in an alcove in the back of the room so the lights will not be an irritation. My current Bello rack is in the front of the room and one of the reasons I was moving it off my stage was so that it would no longer irritate me. :)

I was going to wait and see on fans, but I can see the point that a solid door would help channel air flow.

@GPowers - the text switches to white when you run with black background

You might be surprised how much light the equipment gives off, in a totally dark room. even if the light source is behind you. Any stray light bugs me in the theater especially cell phone screens!

I have a drawer to stuff remotes and clutter. I recomend it, although it is pricey.

Thanks Splotto. I imagine you find the slide-out shelf useful for a laptop for doing firmware updates. What else am I missing on the usefulness of a slideout shelf?

Sorry if this is a naive question. In a rack setup like this, how do most people terminate their speaker cables runs? Is there a standard patch panel to terminate the runs coming out of the wall and then short patch cables into the back of the amp? Pictures appreciated.

My .02.

On the speaker question, many people don't use patch panels because any cuts and splices are just another point for degredation. I didn't terminate at teh speaker either, I ran cable through a hooded cover strait out the wall to the speaker.

I have an AXS system rack. Doors for heat are good if you are trying to keep heat in, but if you need to exchange air with the outside room, use custom shelves and vent panels.

I bought the MA quiet fans and they are anything but quiet. I also bought the variable speed temperature controller for the fans. All a waste of money for my HT application, in a server room I think they would be good.

I went and bought the highest CFM 120MM computer fans I could find and mounted them to the fan spaces in the top. They are thin and very quiet (<22db) at full speed. They were also much cheaper.

You may want a rack light, I bought one but don't really use it because i can see enough with the projector light, but if you are around a corner it may be of use. They sell them that have a surge suppressor built in.

I just recently bought the brush gasket kit to seal the edges and guide my rack since I pull it in and out, if yours if fixed then that probably isn't necessary as you can trim it out.

However, for a completely finished look I do recommend the trim strips that cover the screwes.

Hello:

I use it under my PS#/Xbox to hold the box for the current game being played (makes me put them away) and to rest the controllers on while charging.

It's also good to hold CD cases for games in the HTPC.

I wouldn't say it's a MUST HAVE. But I like it.

does mid atlantic make a product to hid the screws and screw rail? I thought they did but I'm not sure how to search for it.

They're called trim strips and you can cut them to length.

May I suggest www.stayonline.com as a great place to get Middle Atlantic gear?

Personally, for me, when I am able to move to a rack I will be using a door not only for better aifrlow but also to keep children, in-laws, kitties, etc. away from the gear :)
