This is my new standard for home theater audio. I can't believe people don't talk about this title more when discussing reference discs. The sound design is simply amazing. The last 45 minutes of the movie is the best home theater I have ever experienced. The movie isn't great, but the sound is without question reference quality. If you appreciate active surround sound you owe it to yourself to see this movie.

My guess would be its just a poor movie. Doesn't matter how it sounds. Hopfully hellboy II will be better in terms of story..

Whoa. Did you just slam the movie based on the Hellboy comic directed by Guillermo Del Toro?? WTH??

The movie is about a devil baby that looks like a monkey with a huge arm, that grows up and fights a nazi made of sand. How could you go wrong?
I just got done watching Pan's Labyrinth again. Del Toro's effects always look solid and his sound team is just as good.

Hellboy is one of the better comic book movies. And the BD is definently one of the best catalogue releases ever in terms of audio/visual quality.

I couldn't agree more about the sound. The PCM track on Hellboy is one of the most dynamic and convincing tracks one can experience. This is indeed sound design at its finest.

I think that the movie itself is great. I'm usually not a big fan of movies based on comic material, but I couldn't help but appreciate the excellent character development and action sequences in this film.

This is a friggin' awesome movie.

For me it ranks beside of Batman Begins as the 2 best comic book movies ever.

Del Toro is a fantastic director and it's amazing what he could accomplish with a modest budget (considering what we actually see in the screen).

I find it marvelous that he didn't attempt to CGI human like characters, specially the main character, like some other awfull green man/monster movie out there.

+1.

I bought this on SD when it first came out, bought it again on Blu-Ray and it almost felt like it was two different movies...the Blu-Ray experience was so much better...

Just watched Hellboy the other day. Soundtrack is indeed first rate, along the with PQ. The story itself was a bit scattershot, it shifts in tone and the plot was sometimes incoherent, but all in all it was an enjoyable experience, enough to put Hellboy 2 on my radar for viewing this summer.

I sold Hellboy as I didn't like it after the first time viewing. After few weeks I realized that it was actually a good title and bought it again. Good PQ and excellent SQ. To me Air Force One and Black Hawk Down still remains reference titles for AQ.

Hellboy is great... it's easily my second favorite comic book movie (next to Batman Begins). Del Toro is the man. Oh yeah and the BD rocks too.

Thanks for your feedback. We have a number of existing threads on this title, along with the Tier audio thread. It's not that we don't want the feedback, but there isn't a reason to start a new separate thread, when open threads exist that you could add your thoughts to. Like one of these
