I just got this courtesy of another AVS Forum member selling this on the classified. This is a UK import Blu-ray of the group's 1977 Movie/Concert of their Australian tour. The cover mislabels this disc as BD-50 and 1080i. The movie is 1080p encoded in AVC and on SL BD-25. The disc is all region.

The disc looks great for the source's age and sound fantastic. Both 5.1 and 2.0 PCM tracks are included. This is a must have for any ABBA fan. I think this is available for import as both Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Never seen this, so are the songs shown in full, or are there dialogue/narrative interruptions? I love ABBA music, but don't want a gimmicky psuedo-documentary thing that gets in the way of the songs.

There are couple of songs that are shown in full as a music video, Super Trooper is one. Others are shown as part of a concert that is intermixed with this stupid plot of a radio DJ running around trying to get an interview.

Great News!

I love ABBA and would love to check this out.

I would have preferred they release their ABBA Gold (music videos) on Blu-Ray instead!

Hopefully it is in the works!

Just got mine through Amazon UK yesterday. I must say the BD is good looking and the sound are very good. Nice work for such an old film. Really hope it is a full concert rather than a movie itself.

The movie is roughly 50/50 concert footage and fictional story about a reporter pursuing them for an interview on their Australian tour. The ABBA members appear in several behind-the-stage clips (some of them staged), but do no real acting.

It's worth noting that the Hi-Def releases come with an excellent booklet detailing the production of the movie and placing it within a historical context of ABBA's success at the time.

There are major technical differences in the Blu-Ray and HD DVD releases of this title, even though they were released concurrently from the same studio

HD DVD:
2.35:1/VC-1/DTS-HD MA 5.1/DD 2.0

BD:
2.35:1/AVC/PCM 5.1/PCM 2.0

Movie content and extras seem to be identical.

This would make for an interesting screenshot comparison.

Both can be had from Amazon.co.uk.
