View Full Version : Sconces mounted "over" curtains?

I'm thinking about mounting some stationary velvet curtains on either side of my screen. I currently have sconces mounted now. Would it be possible to safely mount my sconces over/through the curtains? I envision some sort of a box extender to push the sconces further from the wall. I'd then cut out a round hole in the curtains to allow the extender through. I'm sure I've seem similar setups in commercial theaters. Any advice or comments are appreciated.

Go for it. It will look great. Just make sure you shield the fabric from any part of the fixture that gets extremely hot.

As GPowers said, just make sure you don't create a fire hazard.

If it's an option, maybe you should switch to some CFL blubs because their operating temperature is cooler than an incandescent bulbs. Most of the CFL's available at places such as Home Depot are not dimmable, but dimmable CFL's are out there.
