For the past year I have been converting my DVD collection to Mpeg for use with my DLink DSM-510. This has been working well but I'm running out of space on my (2TB) server so I have been trying to convert my collection to avi with no luck. I have downloaded some software called avi.net (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/avi.NET) that comes highly recommended - but each time I rip a file it hangs my DSM-510 when I try to access the folder it's in.

Has anyone had success with this? Are there any other recommendations for software? AVI.net allows me to convert my ripped mpegs (which are in perfect quality) and I can play the new avi's on my pc using Windows Media Player so I'm confused as to why they wont stream to my DSM-510.

Any suggestions? I do have some avi files that were downloaded that work so I assume there is a setting/incompatibility in the avi.net software preventing playback?

Thanks for the help!

In addition to the above - when I try to access the folder through the DSM-510 it also turns off my Windows Media Player sharing. The error message reads:

"Media Sharing is disabled, either because the sharing service is not running or your firewall settings have changed. To restart sharing you must first confirm your sharing settings."

I have to then restart sharing of my Windows Media Player so I can view the rest of my Media Files again. If I try to access the folder that my avi file in again the error continues to happen. Has anyone else had this problem?
