hi guys,
thinking of adding a sub to my 2 channel system, nad preamp, b&k amp and psb stratus minis in the near future; does any sub that is good in musical applications easily integrate to this system.
are svs subs, hsu research subs, or rel subs effective for bass management in a 2 channel system? or any other sub flawlessly integrate into a 2 channel system with their internal bass management? considering svs, hsu research, used rel, or sunfire; any suggestions
thanks in advance

I can't speak to your specific choices, but I've got a Rotel 2 channel 1070 Preamp/Amp combo driving a pair of B&W CM7s with a Velodyne sub. Integration works quite well, and the sub produces a good foundation.

I have the crossover set at 40 Hz. The effect of the sub is only felt during those times when there is true deep bass.

BTW, since you mentioned SVS, I have 2 of them in use in my HT. They produce quite a bit of clean sub-bass response in that application.

By the sound of your needs which sounds to be primarily music and all my extensive research i've done for the last year or so i would say it sounds like a HSU Research sub would be one of your best bet. They are supposed to be one of the best subs that i know of for music. Actually i have a Mirage S12 right now which would be excellent for your setup and its a very musical sub but unfortunatly i think they quit selling them. I am mostly a HT guy and, with that in mind, the mirage is not quite my cup of tea because it doesn't offer enough slam/impact for me but for music its awesome and it seems to disappear in my onkyo/ascend acoustics setup. That why i decided to order a MFW-15 from AV123 which i have to wait until april for :(. So i guess i'll be putting the old (well not really old) S12 up for sale soon. Anyways, i know SVS used to be dogged on the music side and ive heard they got better but i would opt for the HSU if it were me.

Your room acoustics and how you deal with them will play a very large part in how well a sub sounds musically as well as how well it blends with your mains.

i only have limited knowledge when it comes to room acoustics. do you guys have any links to improve room acoustics. my room has no echo, have 2 couches, area rug a couple of paintings and a bookshelf? i heard rugs prevent early reflections and bookshelfs and paintings help diffuse sound. thats about it when it comes to my knowledge of acoustics.
where should i position diffusers? bass traps and dampeners?
thanks in advance

Here's a few good places to start:

http://gikacoustics.com/room_setup.php

You are probably getting early reflections off your ceiling, side, and rear walls and you likely have a large peak in your bass response.
