I'm checking into GOM prices (I ordered swatches/samples), but in case that it is too high for my budgeting needs (I've heard the stuff is $20+ a yard), has anyone found a good substitute?!

I need something for over the speakers that won't show the drivers through it, but allows free acoustic flow.

Also, I need something to go over my Linacoustic that won't inhibit the absorption.

I've been doing the breathing test through a whole bunch of local stuff, but finding it hard to fit the above criteria!

Any help very much appreciated!

dazian.com

The janus, expo (aka exposure), and celtic lines are all used as GOM substitutes.

I received some samples of the audio weave stuff from FabricMate and it seems nice as well.

Check out the speaker cloth at partsexpress.com. Very inexpensive and good quality. I used it on my columns and it's great.

I was under the impression that speaker grill cloth wouldn't necessarily keep all the dangers fibers (from linacoustic, oc703 or other type of insulation), from getting thru the cloth and floating around in the room. But maybe I'm completely mistaken.

GOM can be found for right around $13/yd. The GOM that I am looking at is 66" wide... that appears to be a pretty good value to me.

Best of luck.

If you're looking for a good price on GOM checkout: www.cinemadesignbuild.com

GOM on that site is around .90 cents a square foot or under 15.00 yard.

Good customer service and delivery. Plus, if you mention that you are an AVS Forum member, they will give you a discount!:D

I will need to check them on what the discount is, but their prices are still higher than Fabricmate and shipping is the same.

htnutz...are you affiliated with them? Seems like a fly by night operation. Tried contacting them via on-line form but no response and some parts of the site does not work. Also, price seemed to have changed since my last post here.

Will the celtic, janus, & expo work as AT fabric as well as hold in all the fibers from linacoustic?

If linacoustic is installed properly with no exposed edges and the coated side facing the room there should be minimal fibers to begin with. Remember this stuff is engineered to be installed inside air ducts with air blowing over the surface. For in-duct applications the edges are supposed to be coated. When you put it on the wall you butt the edges up to a furring strip or something so that they aren't exposed.
