View Full Version : FPT-5084 or LNT-4669 (or similar LCD)
Jefflaw77 02-12-08, 06:55 AM I am in the market for a new TV.. I have done my research and do have a fairly good understanding of the pros and cons of each tv. However, i thought perhaps some of you could add some more comments to the situation.. Right now i am on the fence between the PLASMA FPT-5084 and the LNT-4669 (LCD).
In the long run which one am i gonna like the most.. I've read that the 5084 possesses some sort of buzzing sound.. Also, i play a decent amount of video games on xbox and ps3.. Will i run into a problem w/ the plasma? I anticipate only using the TV for maybe 2-3 hours a day (i work a lot) and im kinda held back b/c of this "burn in" period everyone talks about.. Also, the brightness, i am used to the brightness of a LCD (as i have a smaller one in my bedroom) - but most people say the brightness of LCD's are unnatural..
Why i like the plasma is b/c i kow it's ideal for movie watching, and motion.. However, heat issues, a/c consumption does concern me..
W/ the LCD mentioned above, i've heard of the dreaded TBE exhibited by many of these newer LCD's.. However, is that something that is a deal killer? Also, LCD doesn't run as hot and i wouldn't have any problems w/ burn in... The blacks, from what i saw are pretty damn good on this tv in comparison to other LCD's and even some plasmas.
Bottomline is this.... THe 50" plasma samsung is 1832.00 at amazon right now which is a fantastic price...
I am really torn here.. I don't want to make a mistake in getting the wrong tv.. I know that many are extemely happy w/ the samsung plasma, but this 200 hour burn in period and just overall maintance does scare me... question is this... Should i not be as concerned by all this?? Sometimes, reading these forums can be bad for your health, if u know what i mean... :)
Any thoughts would be appreciated.. thanks
jeff

Im an owner of a samsung 5884 no buyers remorse. 200 hours will go by fast I have the tv hooked up to dtv ps3 movies/games and no issues with ir. If you mix up the content and watch tv in between gaming you should be fine. I never looked at LCDs

I did look at LCD's also.. I looked at the 4671.... The TBE effect was a deal breaker for me, and the motion blur that does occur with fast motion... ex.. playing cod and you pan the camera around, everything gets smudged.
I picked up the 5084 aware of the burn in and IR or burn in problems... the only game that has given me a problem is Rockband with the green meter on the left of the scree.
I am over 250hrs now.. and I barely think oF ir anymore.... After a long session of video games which for me is usually at night... I will set the sleep timer for 90min and let the scrolling screen or white screen run after I go to bed.
If you do pick up the TV just have the contrast and brightness below 50 for the first 200 hours or so.. I set mine to 45 each and it isn't as dark as you would think it is...
Either way I am sure you will be happy with your purchase.. Once you make it don't look back, because then you will be second guessing yourself... Look at them again... pick one and run with it... Either way you will be satisfied....
